Avatar: Azula colour meme on tumblr

Since Artician was an irritating spoon-suck(*), I have combined my desire to have an alternative venue to DeviantArt with a vague thought I had about making a tumblr for my fanart. Thus! alias-sqbr@tumblr. No idea if I'll get bored of it or if anyone will bother subscribing etc but there you are. (nb this is separate to sqbr @ tumblr, which is pretty much just for very occasionally reblogging things)

(*)Though they have nice hotlinkable large preview images that I may use from time to time on places like AO3

Tidying up my tabs after several days of feeling utterly crap.

[livejournal.com profile] yuletart assignments are out! I am very happy with mine, their tastes seem pretty well suited to the sort of stuff I make and I have an idea already.

If you are my Yultart artist: Hello! I got a bit shippy in my request just because I SUCK at shippy stuff so appreciate it when other people make it for me. But I'd rather you make something fun that comes naturally than force yourself to try and fit my tastes exactly. Also: I'm beginning to go off Skip Beat, the latest chapters irritate me :/

I keep seeing Yuletide squee and pondering joining in, but looking at the nominated fandoms I realised that every time I got enthused I was imagining drawing for it (or at most writing a comic), not writing fic.

Professor Leighton vs Phoenix Wright game OMG

One last Homestuck fanart before I put my mind to Yuletart:

Writing for a fast moving open canon is kind of scary.

I am still frustratingly blah and stupid after Worldcon (I knew it would take longer than I expected to get back up to my usual level of crapness, and yet it still has) and thus not answering mail and screwing things up(*). (Original title of this post: "Three posts that didn")

So! My attempts to make a sticky post having screwed up my ability to crosspost for a while, three posts that didn't get crossposted to livejournal when I made them:
Non spoilery thoughts near the end of Mass Effect
Spoilery thoughts on Mass Effect
Things I like in creative works

Speaking of which, I have a bunch of dreamwidth invites if anyone's interested, it's not usually this much of a pain, honest :) Plus one AO3 invite.

And so there's some new content for the dreamwidth folks: am playing Mass Effect 2, it's awesome, but now I'm wondering if I want to go back and redo ME1 to get a more complete and integrated backstory. Bioware is totally my master now.

(*)I decided to take my mind off needing to deal with my email and making a doctors appointment by playing Mass Effect 2...and in game got an email from the ship's doctor telling me to go see her about my health.

Written for people assigned to make me stuff for exchanges etc. It got a bit long so I've put the really important stuff in bold, the rest is very much optional.

This is my personal/fannish journal. For topics I feel require a more serious and moderated approach I have [personal profile] sqbr.

Here is a summary of my experiences using a mobility scooter for the first time at Worldcon. The beginning is mostly taken from the posts I made at the time but then I go into some further thoughts. I was inspired to try one by a post like this from someone else on I think [livejournal.com profile] disabled_fandom so I thought I'd return the favour.

Overall: it was fantastic and I'm incredibly glad I did it. I feel less crap now than I usually do after the much shorter and smaller Swancon.

The woman from the Melbourne mobility centre was incredibly helpful and nice. It was only $14 a day plus $2 for delivery to the hotel which was totally worth it. But that's with a con discount, I think it's normally double that.

I'd also like to extend a HUGE thankyou to [livejournal.com profile] karenbabcock, the disability support officer for Worldcon, who did a fantastic job organising everything and checked up on me during the con to make sure things were working out.

At least that seems to be the reason why our home internet can't see any dw addresses. Have contacted support but until then am relying in the iPad which is a pain. I am still getting comments etc but can't reply.

Ug. Plus westnet, our Internet provider, are being broken half the time they seem to have broken their system.

I may be forced to turn to Twitter and tumblr where I am sqbr of course.

This is currently a placeholder for a remixduello remixer letter.

I've never done a remix before, and am currently on holiday, hopefully I will think of something helpful to say in the next couple of days. (I'm not sure what one says in this sort of thing, it's not like it's a gift so my tastes seem irrelevant) Anyway, I hope you find the story inspiring and whatever you feel like writing am very curious to see what someone else will do with the material! If you feel like remixing the art somehow I am cool with that though I realise the odds of you also being a fanartist are fairly low.

Here is a timeline I made while pondering a sequel to the fic (I then discovered that a linear writing style does not suit timey-wimey plots at all) I have River meeting the Doctor first since that's implied strongly by canon even though I contradicted it slightly in the fic.

So! It looks like I will set aside Wednesday of next week for seeing people in Melbourne. Let me know if you want to come and at roughly what times you are free (I have to keep some of the day free to register for the con, though since the hotel is attached to the convention centre that hopefully won't take long). I'm at the Hilton South Wharf.

Here's my contact details (which I think everyone who expressed an interest should all be able to see)

It hasn't been the 17th here for like 18 hours but meh. Anyway, to celebrate:

A warning that the "Who do I write like" meme is actually a google bomb type thing or something.

Wait, that hasn't got anything to do with femslash, crap. Um. Did I mention I'm feeling reeeally woozy today? No? Yes? (What was the question again?)

I keep seeing all these fraught dramas about Dr Who shipping and apart from feeling glad I'm not really in the fandom it makes me want to ship River/Rose/Amy (ooh, or River/Martha/Rose lol) just to mess with people. (See also Morrigan/Anora/Alistair)

*pokes femslash recs* I'm pretty sure I haven't posted this here before. I have only the vaguest idea who these women are (must give "Legend of the Seeker" a go one day), but they angst prettily :D

Lightening Field by bradcpu. Legend of the Seeker. Cara/Kahlan, with a bit of C/L and some R/K.

It turns out the ever awesome [personal profile] cesy has created a solution to the lack of drafts at AO3: the Unrevealed Drafts Collection.

It's a hack but one that works :)

I tried it out and I feel much better about those stories now (in this case, they're in an anonymous competition whose judge I'm like 80% sure has given up on it, and I'm waiting to get up the courage to PM her and check. But I'm sure I'll use it for other drafts too.)
alias_sqbr: the symbol pi on a pretty background (genius!)
So I decided the only reason I hadn't posted to fanfiction.net was snobbery and that was unfair on the poor huddling masses who might otherwise find some brief moment of joy reading my glorious and unique stories. Thus I uploaded a bunch of fic to ff.net, basically everything that's not a WiP or really short and insignificant. Notice that only left me with seven works as opposed to the forty(!) I have at AO3, I was reminded of how many of my stories are in comic form!

I immediately got a bunch of positive reviews which was nice, but mostly I'm enjoying the stats feature which is trivial but fun, seeing how many readers (say they) came from Canada or the Phillipines etc. My Dr Who fic is the only one not dominated by US readers, for some reason...

I tell you what: AO3 really is a lot better to use, especially for categorising and searching for fic.

Specifically, all my non-DeviantArt art is offline and I won't be getting comment notifications for anything not on my lj :(

EDIT: OK, have rerouted email notifications to gmail. Now to remember everywhere else that uses that address...

No hugs!

alias_sqbr: the symbol pi on a pretty background (no hugs!)
I've been meaning to make a post about this for ages but it refuses to come out right.

So: on the whole I don't like hugs. That includes virtual *hugs*. I am for some reason ok with "positive vibes". Touching in general I'm wierd about. It's not a fear thing, or a sex thing (mostly, though that does make things more fraught), it's more an emotional thing. It doesn't mean I don't like you!

I'm...weird about emotions. I have real trouble expressing them, and by the time I'm at a point where I can talk about something that makes me sad I'm usually not actually feeling that sad about it, and people comforting me as if I am sad makes me Very Uncomfortable(*).

I also tend to get weirded out by flirting, even if it's obvious the other person is joking. (Though sometimes I'm not) On the whole I get uncomfortable talking about sex, though this is the result of neurosis not conservatism (or lack of interest! :)), and the more dispassionate and intellectual the discussion the more comfortable I am.

Aaaannd that's enough of that. You can ask questions if you feel you need clarification but I may have trouble answering. Right now I feel like I've been holding my hand to a mild electrical current (a rough approximation of my mental response to thinking about things that make me feel neurotic).

(And thanks again to [personal profile] livewareissue for the icon :))

(*)The primary motivation for this post being that I can link to it when I think I'm in danger of being given lots of *hug*s
alias_sqbr: And yet all I can think is this will make for a great dreamwidth entry. (dreamwidth)
So! I am now crossposting all my alias_sqbr content from dreamwidth. Comments are enabled in both places so this should cause not trouble to my lj peeps.

The places you can get your Dr Sophie funtimes:

alias_sqbr: real life stuff, fandom, art: alias_sqbr at Dreamwidth, alias_sqbr at Livejournal

sqbr: Attempt at a safe space for discussing Serious Business: sqbr at Dreamwidth, sqbr feed at livejournal.

I haven't figured out how I'm going to organise my reading circles (there may be some adding and removing going on in the future), and am cool with people changing where I sit in their access/subscription, but if you've given access to sqbr it'd be helpful if you gave access to alias_sqbr as well.

Lj comment notification appears to be entirely borked for many (all?) people, but I noticed that for some reason "recent comments" doesn't seem to be, so you can at least see comments on your own lj:

We're off to Dunsborough for a few days. Internet access will be patchy! (For those not from Perth: it's the little pointy bit on the south west coast, blocked by the bottom of the magnifying glass in my icon)

Last year we went to the same place and I was off gluten which combined with my other intolerances made it very hard to find anything to eat. I'm looking forward to eggs on toast and cereal (with rice milk :/) at the breakfast buffet.
alias_sqbr: the symbol pi on a pretty background (Default)
I have a bunch. Comments screened, give me your email address (I think a gmail one works best?)

I will be setting this post to private once the invites are gone.

I already did a friends-locked post and had a total of one request so people I don't know are free to ask.
alias_sqbr: the symbol pi on a pretty background (Default)
People have started asking me what I want for my birthday, so here's a list. I've turned off notifications for this post, so if you decide to buy something say so and other people will know not to buy it.

99% of you aren't getting me presents and that's totally cool, I just can't be bothered wrangling the other 1% :)
