alias_sqbr: And yet all I can think is this will make for a great dreamwidth entry. (dreamwidth)
So! I am now crossposting all my alias_sqbr content from dreamwidth. Comments are enabled in both places so this should cause not trouble to my lj peeps.

The places you can get your Dr Sophie funtimes:

alias_sqbr: real life stuff, fandom, art: alias_sqbr at Dreamwidth, alias_sqbr at Livejournal

sqbr: Attempt at a safe space for discussing Serious Business: sqbr at Dreamwidth, sqbr feed at livejournal.

I haven't figured out how I'm going to organise my reading circles (there may be some adding and removing going on in the future), and am cool with people changing where I sit in their access/subscription, but if you've given access to sqbr it'd be helpful if you gave access to alias_sqbr as well.

Sometimes I get paranoid that people find it annoying when I post pictures of stuff I've drawn to my lj, especially when I'm going through an arty phase. Thus, a poll.

For some ideas of sizes:

How would you prefer I post about my art to my lj?

EDIT: Poll is refusing to work dammit. So, if you have strong feelings just let me know *mutters*

Not that I have any intention of stopping posting all together regardless of what people say (my lj and all) but it seems polite to find out the best way to tell people about stuff I've done without being annoying.

Every now and then I feel like posting something health related but decided not to because it's TMI/dull/depressing, and I don't want this journal to be a chore to read. So I've decided to make an opt-in filter, that way only the people who want to have to read it and I won't feel so self conscious.

EDCIT: Not checking the poll any more, so if you want in comment to say so.

Since I know I always feel weird commenting on this sort of request, a poll:
[Poll #1460325]

Anything important or interesting would be left unlocked, this is just for random crap I feel the need to get off my chest or record for personal reference. It will likely sometimes include stuff like my last post which is of low quality due to illness but not actually about being sick. People wouldn't be expected to read or comment and I'd try and keep everything under an informative cut.

I am totally cool with people not wanting to be on it. Really! You can make it up to me by being extra supportive on my unlocked health posts :)

Short version: posts about race/gender/disability etc will for the most part now be at Dreamwidth account, under a stricter comments policy.

Something I try to balance in my lj is letting people honestly work through/express their opinions, and stopping people from feeling attacked or hurt by the things other people (or I!) say. Unfortunately, you can't easily do both of those things at the same time, especially since I lack the spoons to moderate very tightly. When I first started posting about race and gender on this lj I was working through the basic concepts, and found it useful to explain myself to people who weren't into the whole anti-racism/feminism etc thing. But at this point I'm sick of re-explaining the same basic ideas over and over again, and I've literally been afraid to post about disability issues because I'm worried someone will say something clueless and hurtful.

The more I thought about it, the more I decided I needed an opt-in filter, that way everyone who commented had agreed to abide by some basic rules without having to try to make everyone else change their behaviour unwillingly. But on the other hand I like having open posts so random people can wander by and I can link back from outside.

And then I went "Wait, I have this Dreamwidth account sitting around I'm not using, and since hardly anyone's friended subscribed to me yet.."

So I've set up some commenting rules (still in beta. It'll probably be a while before I post anything). There's also an lj feed for people with ljs who don't have accounts there but want to read what I'm saying. I'm also pondering an opt-in list for locked posts but will wait until after DW goes into open Beta and it's easier for everyone who wants one to get an account.

I will probably post about social justice type stuff here too from time to time, but only when I can be bothered dealing with the comments properly.

I used to put these long wordy disclaimers on my posts, but they got annoying so I stopped. I'd still like a way of making these things clear though, so now I can just link to this and go "Note: 3b) applies" etc (which it really does)

Since a few people have asked: you are quite welcome to make your own list of relevant disclaimers based on/inspired by this page, though credit would be nice and I want a cut of any profits :)

Your comment is allowed to be no more than one of:
a) Unsigned
b) Off topic
c) Rude to me or other commenters
d) to the wrong person or otherwise annoying

And really, should be none of the above. And not anonymous.

*deletes comment which is 3 out of four*

If you want to be rude, at least give people a chance to engage you in extended argument, otherwise you're just a nasty coward.

Gee, I'm glad I started screening the darn things. How hard is to it to create a sockpuppet account or whatever?

To avoid spambots. So if you want to post here anonymously you should be prepared to say something which makes it clear you're not a spambot :P I'm tempted to delete all unsigned anonymous comments just because they annoy me (there's at least two people who leave them and it's hard to tell which is which)

nb: wrote this and next post yesterday, am posting now while home sick from work so I don't feel I've acheived nothing today and to be in time for [livejournal.com profile] ibarw. Thus am much less able to write intelligent replies than you might think.

This post exists as a repository for any and all off topic etc comments
about various possibly inflammatory topics I intend on posting about. I
know it's a weird idea, but I keep seeing interesting discussions about
stuff like feminism getting derailed into the same hackneyed topics or
vitriolic flame wars, and I wanted a way to try and stop that happening
without censoring anyone who feels like straying off topic or
having a good old rant. I may only use this the once then decide it's
more trouble than it's worth! (especially since it's hardly like my main issue with comments is that I have too many)

trs80 pointed out that my old "do I read your lj?" friending policy was a bit hard on OpenID users, so I've changed it to suit.

So, anyone I know reasonably well who reads this and has an OpenID account (not an lj) and wishes me to friend them let me know in the comments and I probably will.
