New policy re: anonymous comments

Your comment is allowed to be no more than one of:
a) Unsigned
b) Off topic
c) Rude to me or other commenters
d) to the wrong person or otherwise annoying

And really, should be none of the above. And not anonymous.

If you want to be rude, at least give people a chance to engage you in extended argument, otherwise you're just a nasty coward.

Gee, I'm glad I started screening the darn things. How hard is to it to create a sockpuppet account or whatever?

I was impressed with the anonymous comment that replied to mine and had a go at me kadeton and vegetus. I was half hoping you'd unscreen so I could troll back, because their comments were just so out of it. :P

That was indeed the one I was talking about. Vegetus's comment was like 3 threads up! And had absolutely nothing to do with what you guys were arguing about! I was tempted to let it through to tell them how wrong they were myself, but decided deleting it would be ultimately more satisfying and set a (very low) bar for acceptable behaviour.

Eh. Its your journal. Personally I would have found, pointing vegetus and kadeton at the comment more fun for all, but then I'm in a shit-stirring mood. :P

I think it gets sent to the person it replies to as well as the owner of the lj. Which is a bit weird but meh.

Though greteldragon forwarded me a copy of the reply to me- it was frikkin' hilarious and they clearly have the read comprehension skills of a 4 year old as they totally didn't get the point!

I suspect that at least some of your anonymous commenters are coming via Planet UCC, and it might be worth editing your template to have a 'please sign your name if you don't have a login' notice.

Yes, I think you're probably right, which is one reason I tend to let innocuous ones through. What do you mean by "my template"?

Not sure anyone will notice the little link on the side, and I'm not changing the title of my blog to "SIGN ALL ANONYMOUS COMMENTS" but you never know it might work :)

I forget that you don't actually see your own LJ style a lot of the time. As you say, it might help.

I have the world's ugliest website so despite the fact I can edit the way it looks I shouldn't get too smug about the benefits of running your own blog.

Oh, I used to have my own blog, but the peer pressure and social connectness of lj brought me in. One of the things I like about having a paid account is the ability to add some css of my own in a vain attempt to make up for lj's inherent ugliness :)
