I thought about this for a moment, pondering various options, and then went "OH WAIT. GLADOS."

If you haven't played the Portal games, you play a woman who is trapped inside an otherwise lifeless lab, being forced to use a portal gun to solve various "tests" by a science obsessed AI called GlaDOS who is by turns politely informative and sadisticly cruel.

She is the best and I love her.

I usually avoid puzzle platformers, but I got Cam to help me through the tougher parts, and loved it. Portal 2 is fantastic too, and fleshes out GlaDOS as a character in a really interesting way.

Here's a trailer for the first Portal game, and for Portal 2.

Ah, and the post asks about a theme song! She has one for each game, both amazing in context: Still Alive and Want You Gone by Jonathon Coulton. EDIT: There's a third, from a Lego Portal game I have never played!

*has a resurgance of dormant robot femslash hateship feels*

I did Dragon Age Remix and Remix Revival one after the other, which means I have a WHOLE HEAP of remixes by both me and other people to link to. Below the cut: Eight works about female characters from Dragon Age (mostly dwarves), and one Portal fic.

Image descriptions at each link.

LinkPractical Applications of the Turing Test at AO3, at Fanfic.net
Fandom: Portal 2
Info: 15647 words, T, no content notes
Characters/Pairings: GLaDOS/Chell
Summary: A perfectly innocent and entirely human woman turns up at the house Chell has been living in since she escaped Aperture.

I wasn't going to post this until I had some other stuff to go with it, but I'm bored.

My brain has so much trouble once a story gets above about 7K words, I have extreme difficulty keeping all the themes and emotional arcs etc straight. Even with shorter stories I have to write them as little scenelets and then fairly short chapters otherwise I can't keep it all straight. But this demanded to be long! Which isn't that surprising I suppose, since I've been pondering how to get Chell and GlaDOS together since finishing Portal 2. So many shippy feelings, so many reasons they would never work. Various ideas and stuff have leaked out into other robot stories over the past year, which is good, or it would have been like 30K and unfinished. Also it made me realise how much I freaking love writing stories about robots and AIs :D

If you're into Portal fic it all seems to be on tumblr these days (this certainly got a much larger response there than any of the other fic I've posted) meaning I've finally gotten into this whole subscribing to tags thing the kids are talking about these days.

Woo, a new fanvid rec comm: [community profile] vidrecs.

London (7941 words) by sqbr (also at Fanfic.net)
Fandom: Pride and Prejudice
Rating: General Audiences
Warning: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Lydia Bennet/George Wickham, Mary Bennet/Anne de Bourgh
Characters: Lydia Bennet, Anne de Bourgh, Mary Bennet, Elizabeth Bennet
Summary: Lydia had been enjoying this rare chance to stay in the Darcy's London house, but that was before she'd found herself stuck here at night with Elizabeth out, Miss de Bourgh sick in the best guest bedroom, and no one to talk to but Mary.

This is probably the last Anne/Mary story I'll write, though I hope to draw some more art.

And now, art!

I've been doing a lot of stuff for exchanges and challenges recently, most of which I can't post yet, though one had a bug that sent out notifications to everyone subscribed to me regardless, ack. But this I can post:

The Importance of Giving in to Temptation (AO3) (8312 words)
The Importance of Giving in to Temptation (Fanfic.net)
Author: [personal profile] alias_sqbr
Rating: Teen And Up
Contains: Offscreen death, not the main characters of the fic
Relationships: Fenris/Female Hawke/Isabela
Summary: "Sin" is a matter of perspective. Seven moments in the relationship of Fenris, May Hawke, and Isabela. A fluffier companion to Blood Magic.
Note: Chapter four of this was posted for the "Sloth" prompt of the [personal profile] swooping_is_bad "Seven Deadly Sins" challenge.

I felt bad that Isabela didn't show up much in Blood Magic, and wanted to have a go at writing ot3 fic that wasn't established couple + 1.

And now, some art! There's a minor trans character in Dragon Age: Mark of the Assassin, Serenity, who got some skeevy dialogue (which Bioware apologised for) Fandom responded by celebrating her with lots of unskeevy art and fic huzzah (and then other parts of fandom complained, but never mind)

And now a bunch of happy things from tumblr, which will be of no interest to anyone who is already subscribed to me there. I've linked to my posts since they have image descriptions.

Ug. I have a cold. Lying around on the couch feeling like crap is frustrating enough without a runny nose and a sore throat to go with it. Anyway, to fill in the time…art post!

I don't know if anyone cares but my brain has been pondering these characters and their relationships to each other.

If you haven't played Portal and Portal 2 they're (a)amazingly awesome puzzle games and (b)Have pretty good science fiction plot integrated between the puzzles with a very strong focus on some great, if loosely sketched, female characters.
Spoilers! )

I made a post about Political fanart at [personal profile] sqbr which some of you may be interested in.

I've also updated my Redbubble store with my more recent original art.

I was linked this disturbing picture of me and the rest of the 1999 Unisfa committee at Terracon (description below). I'm the one on the back left with the APPALLING jumper, even back in the 90s people mocked me for it. It was cold, ok :P

I've been playing Portal 2, it's awesome, though I must admit I have resorted to a walkthrough now and then (I shall blame it on brainfog and ignore the fact I have always been too impatient to finish puzzle games without a walkthrough). It took a little while to stop feeling like a gratuitous sequel with nothing new to offer, but a couple of chapters in and it got really interesting, both in terms of puzzles and plot/setting etc.

Yesterday (after getting stuck on Portal 2) I decided to finally finish my third Dragon Age: Origins character, who has been most of the way through the game for months after I couldn't face a particular long unpleasant dungeon crawl again.
More Dragon Age: Origins rambling, no spoilers )
