I just found out about freesewing.org and made myself some comfy trousers!
They offer a bunch of customisable free sewing designs, including instructions. Once you make an account and enter in you measurements, you can download any of their designs altered to fit your shape.
Which is hugely helpful for me, because I have unusual proportions that don't fit standard sewing patterns, and am not up to altering them myself.
I'll put the rest of the details under the cut but before that, if anyone in Perth has recs for good cheapish fabric places that deliver I'd love to hear about them!

junetide has started, woo! The full extent of my creative genius
Jul. 19th, 2009 10:14 pmI finally got around to uploading a bunch of my old art to the art and craft sections of the gallery, since recently I had some situations where I wanted to link to all my art.
Also, Velithya has reminded me: I didn't want to post it until after my littlebang pic but one of thepieces of art I totally stole from inspirations was a picture I'd completed a few days before I got the assignment.
Created as Vel and Chas's wedding card. Done in 2 days rather than a month, thus the rather more rushed appearance :) It was fun having a chance to REALLY get to know the original poster and all it's subtleties, modding a complex work of art is very instructive.
It was odd looking at all my old art. I left out all the REALLY embarrassingly bad stuff :) And there's a couple I saved in odd places I still need to hunt down.

Cam and I keep some of our misc papers and unpaid bills in two old tissue boxes since they're just the right size. They were both a bit worse for wear so yesterday I got around to taping them up and decorating them. Something I've only been meaning to do for EIGHT YEARS.
Anyway, I thought it would be nice to share since I enjoy seeing when other people do this sort of Playschool-esque easy-home-craft thing. The first one is white paper+ gluestick+pen and pencil (coloured during a phone conversation with my mum) The second is two different types of cheap "Contact". It turns out the metallic sort is much more temperamental than the plasticcy sort I'm used to.

So I've made myself a steampunky...thing for wastelands, but since I didn't want to screw it up tried out various techniques on a crappy $3 clock from Red Dot, and as a result have an excess crappily modded "aleithiometer". Anyone going to wastelands want to borrow(*) a crappy prop to fill out their costume? You'd either get it from me at the con (and I will probably only be going on Sunday) or come pick it up from here if you're really keen.
