As encountered by me while poking Wikipedia. I was specifically researching gods for TGCF/Heaven Official's Blessing, but I think this sort of thing is interesting for anyone with an interest in Chinese fantasy or folklore.

I don't know enough to judge if these wikipedia pages are accurate, and if people have better places to read up about this sort of thing, or any other info, I'd love to hear about it!

The MXTX Tavern: A discord for discussion of all the novels, as well as all the adaptations, for people over 18. So far people are pretty friendly and fun to chat to, and while still leaning young it's less overwhelmingly Actual Teens than the last MXTX-related discord I tried. The MDZS discussion (each book has it's own opt-in channels) has a lot of Untamed content but isn't just about The Untamed, which works for me.

mxtx_bargainbin An exchange where people finish each other's stalled fanfic WIPs based on the novels of MXTX. Run by the MXTX Tavern folk.

MDZS Audiodrama | Drunk Lan Wangji Bathtub Scene Animation using the subtitled audio drama for the dialogue, of the scene where Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian's building UST ends in drunken makeouts. Well drawn, romantic, hot, and slightly less overtly dubconny than the novel version.

Youtube then recced me this video of the scene where they actually declare their feelings but it's basically just the audio with subtitles. Which is a pity because I would LOVE to see a version with everyone else's YOU ARE DECLARING YOUR FEELINGS NOW?? faces. I'm not sure how well it works without the rest of the romantic context,

It's available to stream officially from Funimation/Animelab in most English speaking markets (and Bilibili in most other places, afaict)

Summary (from my guide post): The main character, Xie Lian, is a former golden child who ascended to god-hood at the age of seventeen full of idealistic intentions...and it went so badly he spent 800 years as a God of Trash. As the story begins, he's gotten another chance at real godhood, but at this point is cheerfully cynical about his odds of ever actually achieving anything meaningful. But while he's doing Heaven's bidding, Xie Lian encounters a strangely charming demon king who seems to know him...

The original novel is m/m romance as well as fantasy/horror, but censorship means the romance will only be subtext in the donghua.

I watched the first two episodes and they're pretty good! This part of the story is mostly character introductions and a creepy ghost story, which all works pretty well so far. The LI only appears very briefly but gosh darn is that brief appearance shippy. The art/acting/writing etc is pretty well done and it's fun seeing everything animated (Liiiing Weeeeennnnn my loooove).

Content Notes for the book: consent issues, sexualisation of children, gore, mixed treatment of cross-dressing, suicide, child harm, mild quasi-incest, ableism, abuse, gender stereotypes, racist subtext, ANGST

This won't have the sexual stuff but it's still likely to be pretty intense (and is keeping the crossdressing, for good or ill). The book itself worked around censorship via a lot of situations which Could Only Be Solved By Kissing, I'm curious to see if any of them squeak into the donghua.

Looks pretty and gay :D The show starts at the end of October.

Heaven Official's Blessing is another MXTX m/m fantasy romance, the story of an 800 year old god and ghost king who go through Some Shit before they finally find happiness together. She had to write around censorship more in this book, so there's a lot of like...sexy CPR and other excuses for sexy touching, some of which will hopefully make it into the donghua even if they won't be allowed to make it explicitly romantic. Plus the central dynamic is god and (romantically) obsessive worshipper, so they can just have him be very very devout.

The manhua/comic adaptation is slowly ongoing, and my gender-switching fave Shi Qingxuan has showed up looking gorgeous with their sexy crossdressing goth boyfriend and I am very happy. Apparently their male voice in the donghua is going to be the guy who did Wei Wuxian in the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation donghua!

(My other fave, Ling Wen, is also looking fine in the trailer, but I'd already seen that design)

Still, there was a lot more Shi Qing Xuan in this part than I remembered!

Now to decide if I want to reread Book 2!
Pros: I am likely to gain a lot of understanding, I spent that whole book super confused.
Cons: depressing, NO SHI QING XUAN AT ALL (since they hadn't been born yet)

SORRY TURNS OUT I'M NOT DONE

I was reccing HOB to a friend and in the process looked at the first chapter to get the link... and now I'm 17 chapters into a reread whoops.

So here are some thoughts! These are mostly written for myself, with a lot of quotes I liked (the first 24 chapters are on a site which allows me to cut and paste, woo) and notes on things I may find useful for fic. (if you're curious I am 4K into a Shi Qing Xuan/He Xuan fixit fic that better suits my personal tastes than the examples I found on AO3)

I don't know if I'll reread the whole thing, but I did spend most of the first two books MASSIVELY confused about EVERYTHING. Certainly at the moment I'm noticing SO MUCH I missed the first time. Eventually I might just start skipping about for anything I need for fic.

This will be both very confusing and massively spoilery for anyone who isn't familiar with the plot.
