Taking an axe to my gendered icons
Apr. 9th, 2019 03:11 pmFinally got around to deleting/editing all my gendered icons. I kept telling myself I could just not use them, or not think of them as implying I'm a woman, but it bugged me.
This one used to say "expressing my femininity with an axe". And I still have femininity! That I might like to express with axes! But this version makes me happier. Especially since it's in a more readable font now.
That's me, by the way, many years before I realised I'm non binary, dressed as the bearded dwarf Cheery Littlebottom from Discworld, not that I'm very recognisable under all that hair :) This was at Swancon, and Elizabeth Moon admired and briefly wore the helmet, which I'd painted with pretty pink flowers.

Time for the cute little mullet ninja Yamazaki Susumu!
My main concern was that he might be a bit too much like Saito and then I realised it is impossible to be too much like Saito.
And it was fairly enjoyable!

Life stuff

Lately I've been feeling...I guess mildly depressed is the word for it. Not sad exactly, just that whenever I ask myself if I have the motivation to do stuff my brain keeps saying "nope it will make you feel bad and you will screw it up" so I don't. Like an ache you only notice when you try to move. And of course then I feel sad about not getting anything done, luckily I've been able to find enough things I can do to keep the wheels of life turning and have a sense of accomplishment.
In that vein...
Have been playing through the Fade VERY SLOWLY in DAO. It is generally considered the most boring part of the game and most people skip it on replays, but it's the first time I've tried it without cheats so I am determined to see if I can do it (signs point to yes!) It is pretty dull though, no dialogue or other characters just...fighting and wandering around.
Started watching All About My Romance, alas my brain is a bit sick of having to read subtitles. I tried a bunch of other Hulu shows the only other one to grab me at all so far is "Little Mosque" but it's not the kind of show I can watch a bunch of in a row.
I found myself feeling SUDDENLY SAD about not going to Continuum, and I do think I let inertia make me dismiss the idea of going too quickly, but mainly I think I just feel lonely AND socially awkward which makes me crave large groups of friendly people I can lurk around awkwardly. Not sure how to acquire such a thing in Perth right now :/

Inspired by the latest Homestuck update (in which the pictured character, who is inclined to make detailed shipping charts about everyone she knows, feels sad about one femslash ship being sunk and another being underappreciated)
I don't know if I'll ever actually use it, but it was fun to make :)

Jul. 16th, 2010 06:00 pmI've been having lots of Avatar The Last Airbender related conversations recently and have been feeling the lack of an ATLA icon. I spent a while thinking about it and decided, I don't know why, that this image from the Nickolodean comic "Going Home Again"(*) would be the right choice.
I've been quite enjoying all the ATLA squee I've been seeing around.
(*)Which you can find online by googling. I haven't looked up the other Nicktoon comics but this one is official canon for how Zuko and Mai got together and I am a sad shippy fangirl. And yes that is Mai's hand in the icon :)

:) (The icon, for those who can't view it, is a rope ladder hanging down into a disabled parking space. Of course those who need disabled parking spaces are likely to not be big on rope ladders, but I like the image anyway)
nb the way I got this was by using Photobooth on this computer to take a photo of the laptop, since Apple have gotten better at stopping you from taking screenshots of dvds. But I prevailed! (I'm sure there's a better way but I couldn't be bothered looking into it for a single image that didn't need to be high quality)

I woke up at 5am this morning and am still pretty wired, I hope it lasts until my 11am tutoring job :/
EDIT: Heh. Student had been up late with friends, we were both cheerfully vague at each other. Lots of "I got 2.81" "It says 2.7. Eh, close enough." :)

I read this post by nixwilliams suggesting people make icons of Family First senator Steve Fielding not existing (since he doesn't believe in climate change the greenhouse effect), so I googled him with a vague thought of just putting Nix's text over an image of him or something(*). And then this image of him dressed as a beer bottle was so perfect I had to make an icon of it. This one is pretty funny too but a bit blurry.
I might work on it some more after I have a shower :)

After making my last icon I remember angriest saying that that "DW" made him think of Dr Who, so I decided to google image search Dr Who and see if anything inspiring came up, and there was the perfect image. It's a woman! In pink! In the foreground! With the keys to the Tardis! That's the way fanfic fandom on DW sees itself right there, I would say :) (Fandom may disagree)

May. 11th, 2009 06:24 pmFirst: My deepest apologies to whoever bought the octopus shirt off redbubble since I later realised there was a flaw in the image which didn't show up in Photoshop (a little bit of the white background was still visible) It's fairly minor and I've fixed it now but I'm sorry your shirt will be a bit off.
Second, the icon: I kept seeing all these Dreamwidth icons around the place, and while I have no real interest in promoting the journalling service my muse got inspired anyway. I probably won't actually use it, but others are welcome to.

(It's also sometimes a problem with people I know, but on the whole I think you guys have learned to go "Sophie just said something nonsensical or out of character, so even though it wasn't funny I'll assume she was joking")
