Yep, this is a reference to A'tuin from Discworld. It's turtles all the way down :) I don't have strong turtle feelings in general, but I think they're cute! Also the original photo is of a turtle threesome which amuses me.
"I'm not sure I knew you'd been in SGA fandom - what did/does it mean for you, what did you like, etc?"
I was only sort of in SGA fandom, it was more that back in the day almost everyone else I knew was into it, so I read a lot of fic and drew a lot of art for prompts. This is adapted from one such example. I had mixed feelings about the show (and only watched a season or so) but really liked the idea of Atlantis itself, and it's "alien city skyline in the middle of the sea against a huge sky" aesthetic.
"Feel free to tell me what you like about the flying rats, and them in particular"
I really liked the comic, Digger, and remember thinking the little flying rats were cute, but it was less about the canon context and more the aesthetic.
At the time I made this icon I hadn't had a livejournal for long and really wanted a default icon that felt like me, but couldn't decide on one. Then I saw the panel this image came from and went "THAT. I AM GOING TO BE REPRESENTED BY THAT LITTLE MOUSE". And for a long time, I was, and I still have a lot of affection for the little mouse. I think that asides from the cuteness and me being a little bit of a furry, I liked the sense that it was tiny, and not very important to the main plot, but trying it's best to help in its tiny way.

Date: 2021-02-11 09:31 am (UTC)Atlantis really genuinely was very beautiful, all those shots of the city from the air, or people standing on balconies gazing out over the spires.
