Tamsin made a nice post for people to ask for/post cute/happy animal pictures etc and I was reminded that not everyone outside Australia has heard of tawny frogmouths, which are very cute weird muppety looking native birds. Another very cute local animal is the quokka, which looks like if a capybara was a jovial marsupial hobbit.

Asking outside my health filter since this is less a personal thing and more a general question of science.

Recently I've tried a bunch of blood pressure meds with different mechanisms/chemical properties and had what seemed to be a similar allergic reaction to almost all of them. Pondering if there's some underlying cause, it occured to me that they were all from the same generic meds company Apotex.

So now I'm wondering if it's worth asking specifically for the name brand version and seeing if I have an allergic reaction to that, or if that's likely to be a waste of time and money.

Did you know that many vitamin C tablets contain citrus? Specifically, the Blackmores Bio C tablets I've been taking for at least a year?

In retrospect it's pretty obvious but it simply hadn't occurred to me to check until [personal profile] lilysea brought it up as a personal frustration. I switched to Swisse High Strength C, which is just vitamin C, and lo! All the weird little extra skin issues I developed a year or so ago have largely healed up! Luckily Cam is not intolerant to citrus and had been looking for a vitamin C tablet which doesn't have any sweeteners so I didn't have to throw out the old ones.

Normally I put this sort of thing on my health filter but maybe someone else out there is intolerant to citrus, takes vitamin C tablets, and never thought to check the ingredients of those tablets. Or maybe it's just me >.>

Also, thanks [personal profile] lilysea, you rock :)

So! I have a prescription for Pariet/rabeprazole that runs out in six weeks. It's an Authority required (STREAMLINED) medication.

I would like to avoid having to go to a doctor's office to get my next prescription at that point, to avoid possible Covid exposure, but am not sure how. Advice from anyone who understands the Australian medical system better than me (or the confused chemist I asked) appreciated.

I really don't want to jinx it, so I won't say I'm better, but even if this is a temporary reprieve it feels pretty good!

Can't be bothered making a separate post for the health filter, so here's all the boring details.

I've been feeling weirdly good lately???

Still within expected operating parameters, but consistently on the better end of the scale, for like two weeks. I expect it'll dip back down eventually, but I haven't felt this good for this long in about six months, so whatever kicked me down a notch at the end of last year has hopefully worn off? Maybe??? I'm not used to having optimistic thoughts about my health, even mild ones like "maybe I'm no sicker than I was last year". *hopes I'm not jinxing myself*

Since this is such a cheery development, I decided to make this an unlocked post. Under the cut is some dry medical speculation of the sort I usually lock, but nothing generally distressing asides from talking about food and food intolerances.

Ugh! I am tired and sore from going to the doctor and STRESSED not knowing for sure if this med I NEED TO FUNCTION will be taken away for NO GOOD REASON. So this may not very coherent.

1. ENERGY!!
2. WHO NEEDS SLEEP!!
3. OH NO CAN'T SLEEP EVERYTHING IS TERRIFYING
4. Why is my back itchy all of a sudden?
5. THIS PERSON IS WRONG ON THE INTERNET AND I WILL ARGUE WITH THEM UNTIL THEY SEE SENSE
6. *flop*

Did not manage to stop myself indulging in stage 5 this morning, when I woke up after like 4 hours sleep and checked discord. I hope I'm not going to regret this later /o\

(They really were very wrong though)

The weird thing is that this time I didn't forget them, but maybe I missed putting the psych med in yesterday's box? Or...it just randomly didn't work??

Anyway, time to keep myself busy, away from argumentative people, until stage six kicks in.

Overall the con was pretty good, as far as I can tell based on what I saw around naps.

I am having to stop myself evangelising PEA to everyone I know with chronic pain, because I know how annoying that can be. But I am glad a friend told me about it, and it may be helpful for someone out there. So I'm going to put the info under a cut and you can read or not!
