I just finished(*) the shojo manga "Kimi ni Todoke". It's a bit slight but is adorably sweet. It's about a shy awkward 15 year old girl coming out of her shell and making lots of friends, my inner shy awkward 15 year old girl was very happy :) I was reminded of my first crush, on a guy who I also saw as kind and friendly and a million miles too cool to ever think of me that way.

Two differences I find significant are that most of the people who were nice to me on my journey into "Maybe I'm not too horrible for anyone to like" were themselves somewhat rejected by the social hierarchy rather than being the most popular kids (some popular kids were nice to me too, though), and that I was SO much more jealous and petty towards the people I liked (they were MINE).

Also! Set My World Into Motion is a very cool Dr Who vid about River Song.

I reread "Monstrous Regiment" by Terry Pratchett. It really is a great book, and I'm not just saying that because it has femslashy crossdressing women with swords fighting the Patriarchy2 :D

1)Well, the part that's online. Which happily stops in a moderately satisfying place.
2)This is my favourite niche genre of fiction

Summary: Little comic where Spiderman is Latino, drawn for Racebending Revenge challenge.

Title: Chapter 3 of "The Time Traveller's Guide to Creative Anachronism"
Creator: [personal profile] alias_sqbr
Fandom: Doctor Who
Summary: River/Amy, retroactively places the fic after "Cold Blood" and ties things up a bit more. Comes with art at the end! (Which I'm not linking since it spoils the fic)

Phew. Every now and then I try a different sort of engagement with fanworks fandom to see if it suits me, and based on Racebending Revenge plus another I tried I'd say that AUs definitely don't and challenges might not. Anyway, two recs:

Sam and Dean Winchestgopal: glockgirl continues her awesome "Sam and Dean are desi" Supernatural AU. She manages to sneak in some extra female characters too :)

Five Things People Might Have Read On The Psychic Paper (If Things Were Slightly Different) by Grey_Bard: Imagine, if you will, that the Eleventh Doctor was played by Paterson Joseph but otherwise identical. What might people see on his psychic paper?

Have been feeling braindead and thus watching and reading Skip Beat(*) which I've really enjoyed. Thankyou to whoever recced it to me. Here's a nice unspoilery rec explaining why it's awesome. Plus there's a very nice central het ship and a non-canon-but-very-subtexty femslash ship both of which are also fun :)

Before that I was rewatching selected RTD Dr Who episodes with Cam which uh…reminded me how much I like the latest season (though it certainly wasn't all bad)

Anyway a somewhat paraphrased version of a conversation I and Cam had this evening…(SPOILERS for Skip Beat and Dr Who Season 4)
SPOILERS )

(*)Watch the anime (legally and for free!), read the manga (free and…maybe legally?) Note that the manga is ongoing and the anime just covers the first few volumes ending at a natural pause so neither has a super neat ending.

Non spoilery bit: Very good episode! Very curious to see what happens next week!

Anyway, partway through I had a silly thought, later events contradicted it but I still kinda like it.

First a very nice Amy vid : Half Life

Which leads into my thinky thoughts but they are spoilery up to "Amy's Choice", so, beware the crack cut...(Summary: not TOTALLY in love with current show direction but overall am finding it quite interesting)
Spoilers are ruining the neighbourhood )

Second chapter of "The Time Traveler's Guide to Creative Anachronism" (Dr Who, Amy/River)

More a scene than a chapter but I wanted to keep it separate so people who'd read the first bit knew where to start.

This chapter is just gen (I tend to default to gen) and was meant to lead into another two but (a) I couldn't get them to work out quite right and (b)It looks like a bunch of interesting stuff is going to happen in canon so I'll probably hold off and if they do get written it'll be as a separate story. As it is part of the first chapter has been jossed :/ Still, I think this works ok as an ending.

Cam is a big Stephen Moffat fan, and was eventually persuaded to try some of his Dr Who episodes. He quite enjoyed them and asked me to give him a rundown of any other New Who episodes that are worth watching. And yes, I should label them "Season 34" etc but I'm not :P

Thus, my entirely subjective opinions. I'd be curious to hear other people's opinions, for a start I have a tendency to forget the crap bits of episodes that have one or two scenes I really like.

One star: should probably watch. Two stars: Awesome. I haven't marked many because Cam's standards are very high, YMMV :)

Inspired by the latest episode of Dr Who (31.4, "The Time of Angels") but no major spoilers. Almost certainly going to be jossed by the next episode so very quickly written and probably full of mistakes :)

Title: The Time Traveler's Guide to Creative Anachronism
Author: sqbr
Info: Femslash, G, 1098 words
Summary: In which the author overcomes the inherent age difference in Amy/River with the help of time travel, much to the Doctor's dismay.

Be warned, this picture is spoilery for the Season 5 episode "The Beast Below".

Liz Ten

I'm moderately happy with this, it doesn't bear close scrutiny but gets across the idea I was going for. I somehow screwed up the shadows or something to make her look jowly, the actor is much prettier than I've made her look :)

After making my last icon I remember [livejournal.com profile] angriest saying that that "DW" made him think of Dr Who, so I decided to google image search Dr Who and see if anything inspiring came up, and there was the perfect image. It's a woman! In pink! In the foreground! With the keys to the Tardis! That's the way fanfic fandom on DW sees itself right there, I would say :) (Fandom may disagree)

Original image. That has to be the quickest icon ever :)
