I know some of you have likely been wondering what happened with this show. I mostly enjoyed it to the end but for some reason my brain very suddenly did NOT want to do reaction posts any more, probably due to Complicated Gender Feelings.

So here's the reactions I wrote before my brain ground to a halt, and then a brief summary of what happened next.

AHHH THIS SHOW.

I did enjoy a lot about episodes 7 and 8 but just didn't get a round to writing them up. But after episode 9 now I HAVE to write this ALL up. Because oh. my. god.

(Also I added a brief character guide to the masterlist)

It's genuinely amazing how much this show is objectively Not Good, but so laser focussed on appealing to the 'cute vampire anime boys saying "I don't care if you're a man or a woman, I love you"' demographic that I am still having a good time.

That said, Eps 5 and 6 were kinda meh which is one reason I stopped writing reaction posts. But it's since gotten it's hooks back in me again so here we are.

No, that's not a typo in the title. I got paranoid the show was going to take a sudden swerve into Let's Be Normal Heterosexuals, and read the latest chapter of the manga to see where things are going.

And, well. "Normal" and "heterosexual" are not the FIRST words that come to mind...

After that I felt unable to react to the new anime episodes without mention of some manga stuff. So, here's a reaction to that first.

This post theoretically contains spoilers for the whole story, but by chapter 44 the manga has gone so far down a weird rabbit hole of new plot that the only current anime plotline that really gets spoiled is whether the main couple is together, and, in that respect it is very enjoyably conventional ;) Also some secondary characters don't show up in this chapter, which implies they may leave the story, but it's also possible they just happened not to be around.

Content note: SO MUCH DUBCON. No actual sex, but there are Vibes. Also the manga has some weirdly sexualised child-like characters which I will mention briefly.

Vampire m/f romance anime: After Mito loses her parents and is fired from her job, she must fend for herself on the streets disguised as a boy. She comes across a stranger named Ruka and learns his dark secret—he’s a vampire! Ruka invites Mito, still in disguise, to live in an all-boys dorm. Mito exchanges her blood for a place to stay, but a budding romance and her true identity threaten all that hangs in the balance.

Episode One.

This has been a DELIGHTFUL watch while I've been sick, to the extent I decided to go back and write some retroactive reactions now I'm feeling a bit better. Like, this is not a GOOD show, and is ultimately heterosexual cheese, but I'm genuinely starting to think someone involved is trying to make it at least a little queer friendly. Not going to get my hopes up too high but so far I am enjoying the ride!

So! Let us enjoy Love 2: The Pretty Boy is Targeted, Love 3: The Pretty Boy Stays Over, and Love 4: The Pretty Boy Becomes Friends

There are so many things I wanted to do today: Answer emails. Work on my Stardew Valley mods. Make various dreamwidth posts I've been pondering for some time.

But instead you are getting my reactions to the first episode of the new anime Vampire Dormitory, which is like someone mashed together Ouran Highschool Host Club and Diabolik Lovers, but significantly worse in quality and more fluffily earnest in it's cheesyness.

The Crunchyroll summary:
After Mito loses her parents and is fired from her job, she must fend for herself on the streets disguised as a boy. She comes across a stranger named Ruka and learns his dark secret—he’s a vampire! Ruka invites Mito, still in disguise, to live in an all-boys dorm. Mito exchanges her blood for a place to stay, but a budding romance and her true identity threaten all that hangs in the balance.

Needless to say I am having a wonderful time.

Content note: Suicide, though it all turns out fine.
