Vampire Dormitory Episodes 5-6

It's genuinely amazing how much this show is objectively Not Good, but so laser focussed on appealing to the 'cute vampire anime boys saying "I don't care if you're a man or a woman, I love you"' demographic that I am still having a good time.
That said, Eps 5 and 6 were kinda meh which is one reason I stopped writing reaction posts. But it's since gotten it's hooks back in me again so here we are.
Episode 5: The Pretty Boy Runs Away From Home
So! Last time we left off, our secondary love interest Ren was being Overcome by physical proximity to our protagonist Mito.
I also had previously said that the show had so far only seemed interested in portraying Ren as a platonic friend who was surprisingly supportive of Mito's cross-dressing.
WELL. WE'LL SEE HOW THAT GOES.
Even before reading the manga chapter with it's various demi-human boys I'd hoped Ren was something fun and different like a werewolf.
So. He Manfully Resists his Dark Urges, and is revealed to be...
...a dhampir!
Ah well, I suppose that's technically not a vampire. His father was a vampire and his mother was (at the time of his birth) a human, though she then ran off with his father and became a vampire. So he was left with super strength and a thirst for blood, but was rejected by both humans and vampires. Mito is sweetly supportive and reaffirms their friendship.
Ruka: So how'd your date with Maina go? Did you kiss her? ;)
Mito: NO. UGH, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND A GIRL'S FEELINGS AT ALL. You wouldn't even notice if a girl liked you! You're always biting like it's a kiss, it makes people doki doki!
Ruka, pushing her onto the couch and getting all up in her business: So this isn't about a girl, it's about you. Do I make you doki doki, even though you're a man?
Mito, doki-doki-ing like crazy: AS IF! I... I'M GOING OUT!!
(doki doki is the Japanese onomatopoeia for a racing heart)
She runs off into the city streets, where some creepy dudes decide anyone that hot MUST be a woman, and she is rescued by Ren. She ends up spending the night in his room, wearing one of his shirts as a nightgown that just barely covers her butt. Ren is quietly Into It.
Ren: How am I attracted to Mito? He's a man!
me: ...ok as much as I would enjoy Ren thinking she's a trans man, I'm guessing I just misunderstood that scene where he saw her naked.
The next morning Ruka searches the dorms for her, waking up all the other guys until he finally finds her IN BED WITH REN, which he is NOT happy about. He finds himself remembering how hot Mito looked as a woman For Some Reason.
Episode 6: The pretty boy is heartbroken?!
Ruka is angry at Mito for running off and worrying him so much. The other waiter boys, Takara and Juri, cheer her up by taking her to the beach. The little one, Juri, lends her his bathers, which JUST HAPPEN to be a 19th-century-esqque striped bodysuit thing that covers the chest, which is convenient. This doesn't stop her being the only one of the three who gets ogled by girls.
They have some Cute Friendship Moments. When Takara goes off to pursue girls, Mito and Juri sit on a floating tube decorated with a giant rainbow and admit to their crushes on Ruka and Takara respectively. Juri sadly says Takara likes girls so his feelings will always be unrequited, and Mito is very sympathetic. I think Juri is genuinely a short and feminine looking but cis gay dude?? Nice. I mean, him pining forever is less nice, but that's still more Actual Gay than you usually get in this sort of story. And maybe they'll get together, you never know!
Meanwhile Ruka feels bad for making Mito sad and decides to apologise with a badly but earnestly decorated cake.
Mito comes home, also intending to apologise, just in time for Komori to make sure she witnesses Maina confessing to Ruka!
And then he collapses from lack of blood!!
Maina takes Ruka back to his room and Mito is all "She will be so much better for him than me" until she sees the wonky apology cake and realises he cares too.
Ruka wakes to a delicious smell and nearly bites the well-loved and thus sweet-smelling Maina as she takes care of him. He spends a moment resting his head in the the bosom of a DEEPLY CONFUSED AND EMBARRASSED Maina before telling her there's someone else he thinks about too much for him to date anyone else.
Mito, bursting in with cake: I'm sorry, but I can't support you any more, Maina. I want to be the one by Ruka's side!
Maina: It's my turn to support you now, Mito. I've realised I won't be the one to make Ruka happy.
She manages to hold it together until she gets outside, and then Taraka and Juri cheer her up with cake, aw.
Mito sobs and asks to come back and she and Ruka hug.
Me: Wow, that is the most blatant blood-drinking-as-sex framing yet. Ha and then her stomach rumbled I guess we're back to silly humour.
Me: ... wait no he fed her a strawberry and licked the juice off her face I guess they're really stretching the bounds of 'platonic' interaction... Ruka how is FEEDING SOMEONE CHOCOLATE WITH YOUR MOUTH a FRIEND thing.
He asks how he can make things up to her and she asks to go on an outing with just the two of them, he plays it cool but internally is all "A DATE?? BUT HE'S A GUY???"
There's a whole bunch of scenes in these and the following episodes of Mito and Ren bonding and then her suddenly running off to be with Ruka, it makes me feel bad for poor Ren!

Haha I did go WHAT ABOUT REN throughout this post; no platonic mouth-feeding for him, huh.
This show is so delightful when consumed through your recaps! And omg, Ren is a dhampir!
His mother running off to be with his father is not what I expected. XD I figured she ran off with a vampire so she could be immortal!
