Vampire Dormitory Episodes 7-9

AHHH THIS SHOW.
I did enjoy a lot about episodes 7 and 8 but just didn't get a round to writing them up. But after episode 9 now I HAVE to write this ALL up. Because oh. my. god.
(Also I added a brief character guide to the masterlist)
Love 7: The Pretty Boy Goes On A Date
The date Mito invites Ruka to is a fireworks festival, and she is of course most excited about the food. Ruka says he has "something he has to do first" but barely manages to hide how blushingly excited he is at the idea.
Juri is delighted to help her find some cute clothes and naturally has his sister's kimono to hand in his boy's school dorm.
Ren, transfixed: Is that... a woman's Kimono?
Mito: I knew it... I look weird ;_;
Ren: No, you- WAIT, IS THAT THE SMELL OF MULTIPLE VAMPIRES???
So he says he'll keep her safe at the festival until Ruka arrives. Aw, poor Ren.
Meanwhile Ruka is meeting with... his FIVE EVIL BROTHERS. They're holding an intervention about him "messing around with a man" when he should be settling down with his female fated partner and becoming Lord of the Vampires. When one says they should just eat Mito, Ruka lashes out with MAGIC VAMPIRE POWERS we have never seen the slightest hint of before.
Ren blushes while Mito has a WONDERFUL time eating ALL THE FESTIVAL FOOD. He tells her he likes her but OF COURSE she doesn't hear over the fireworks and then Ruka arrives, aw. Ruka is looking pretty beat up so Mito runs over to him immediately and fusses over him, as Ren fades into the night.
I don't ship Ren/Mito more than Ruka/Mito because she is SO much more into Ruka, but if this was a dating sim I would absolutely be playing the Ren route.
Mito trips in the unfamiliar clothes and bites the inside of her mouth. When Ruka picks her up she says people will think they're a couple when he has a fated partner, but then licks a cut on his cheek.
Ruka: I don't care about that. I want to protect the person in front of me. You.
And then he kisses her!!
Mito: ...was that... because I had blood on my lips?
Ruka: .........YEP. SURE WAS!! HAHA!!
He thinks to himself that it doesn't matter if she is a man or a woman :D
Back at the dorm, the windows have been blown out by Ruka's powers, and his brothers have turned into various small animals??? Spider, rat, snake etc.
If they're "exhausted and can no longer maintain their vampire forms" does that mean vampires actual real forms are small cute evil animals??? WHAT IS RUKA'S FORM I MUST KNOW.
Komori throws rat!brother to the ground and says he OBVIOUSLY had nothing to do with any of this but people ARE getting restless about Ruka still being single.

When Ruka says he doesn't need a fated partner, Komori uses Magic Shadow Powers we have also never seen before to grab Ruka and dangle him in the air, saying he must fulfil his role. Ruka sadly accepts that he has to see THE VAMPIRE COUNCIL.
Mito: Ren! Looks like we're the only ones not staying with our families over the holidays. I'm so glad I'm not alone!
Ren: Stay away from me >:(
While she's taking off her clothes to use the fancy heated bath the school apparently has, snake!brother decides to regain his strength by drinking her dry!
He only manages a small bite before Ren hears her scream and rushes in to save her, crushing him into an even smaller and cuter little evil!worm.
Ren: Let me suck the poison from your chest!
Mito: No, I- *falls, naturally causing her chest bindings to completely unwind except for one convenient little strand covering her nipples* ...don't look at me!
Ren: You're a woman?!
Me: ...yes?
It was only at this point that I realised he somehow missed this fact the last time he saw her topless. But he definitely knows now!
(Also I'm only assuming she has nipples. None of the dudes do when we see them topless, and this is clearly not set in any real world I've ever experienced)
Love 8: The Pretty Boy Has A Fateful Encounter
Ren apologises awkwardly then puts a towel over her breasts before sucking the poison out. Her wig falls off and he says "Wow you really are a woman" because Trans Ally Ren knows men can have breasts (but not long hair, obviously, which implies all sorts of things about Komori)
At the Vampire Council, Ren is shown a vision of his Fated Partner, who has long hair and thus, again, cannot be Mito/a man. He's told he will meet her TONIGHT!!
Mito wakes in Ren's bed from a dream where Ruka finds out she's a woman and rejects her which is sure SOMETHING gender wise.
She apologises to Ren for lying and begs him not to tell anyone, using the masculine "ore".
Ren, gently patting her head: Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. And you don't have to force yourself to sound like a guy right now.
He's cuddling Ruka's cat. How did it even get into his room? He has the very belated, blushing realisation that he went into a bath with a naked woman haha.
He decides the best way to cheer up a girl is to go shopping for pretty clothes. Her main response is surprise and she just wears the first thing the sale assistant suggests, because this author just cannot bring herself to make Mito enthuse very much about being feminine.
Ren is again transfixed then asks why someone so girly looking decided to dress like a boy.
Mito: What do you mean girly looking?
Angsty music plays as a bunch of guys talk about how hot she is and Mito explains that having a pretty face doesn't always make things easy.
Ren, hugging her: Don't hate yourself because of what other people say. I'll protect you. I'm glad you're a woman.
'Being a hot girl' is the perfect angsty backstory for this show.
Ruka stands on a rooftop all vampired up wondering what will happen to Mito if he finds his Destined Partner.
Mito bumps into him near a fountain and is so shocked she drops her little pink bag of Feminine Things she apparently acquired during the shopping trip. At first he just politely helps out but then he gets a look at her face and doesn't recognise her as Mito, but Knows she's his Destined Partner.
He awkwardly asks to have a chat.
Mito: (WHAT AM I DOING HE'S GOING TO FIND OUT)
Ruka: I'm sorry, I don't know how to talk to girls, all I do is watch anime >.>
Mito: (Ok this I can handle) Tell me about your favourite anime :)
They do cute date stuff. She is happy to finally stand next to him as a girl.
Ren sees them together and is about to intervene, but then notices how happy she looks.
Ruka: I know this sounds like a line, but I feel like I've meet you before. Can we meet again?
Mito: Uh... OH LOOK, ICECREAM.
Ruka is so into girl!Mito he very nearly drinks her blood, but then the clock strikes 9 (no midnight dates for these good teens!) and she runs away.
Komoro shows up and encourages him to run after her, while quietly musing that Ruka can't see his fate "right next to him". I'm pretty sure a lot of this is him Testing Ruka's Love For Mito.
Before Ruka can catch up to her, Ren pulls her into an alley way... and kisses her!
Ren: I don't care if you're a man or a woman. I want to protect you as my lover!
We cut to a dark mansion. A silver haired man muses to his cat that this chaos in the vampire world is a chance for his clan.
Man: The reviled dhampirs have a special ability. Once my son Ren reaches his seventeenth birthday and utters his wish after drinking from Ruka's Destined Partner... bwahahaha!!!
Back at the dorm Ruka and Mito are happy to see each other and banter cutely. Mito feels bittersweet that he doesn't mention meeting girl!her, and curls up next to him in his bed. He curls his arms around her in his sleep and mutters "I want to see her again".
Love 9: The Pretty Boy Goes To A Party
Ren dreams of his mother abandoning at a mansion as she drives off with his father. He is woken by his father ringing to invite him to visit.
Ren: What are you-
Ren's Dad: Reiko and I are looking forward to seeing our son :)
Ren: ...mother? ;_;
Komori tells all the waiters at Hot Boy French Cafe that they'll be doing the construction on the new Love Themed renovations because teenagers are cheaper than trained workers haha.
Mito is awkward around Ren and tells Juri he confessed, but that she has feelings for Ruka.
Ren and Ruka are protective and jealous around Mito. Ren tells Ruka he saw Ruka with a girl and that he should back off from Mito if he's interested in someone else, or he'll hurt Mito's feelings. That's kinda sneaky, Ren :/
Ruka: I couldn't help it, she was my Destined Partner!
Ren: Wait, what??
While Ren quietly freaks out, Ruka explains his angsty backstory: when he was a lonely child, new to the human world, a red haired girl befriended him. But she tripped and hurt herself and the sight of her blood caused him to lose control and drink from her until she collapsed.
The child blood drinking is thankfully not framed in the usual sexy way but still feels kinda disturbing.
Ruka: I vowed to never drink from another woman, and never fall in love. But the moment I saw my Destined Partner I felt the urge to make her mine.
Ren is overcome by a vision of Ruka taking Mito away to the vampire world just like his father did with his mother.
Ren: Then... you are just friends with Mito. I have confessed that I like him, and don't care if he's a man or a woman. My feelings are different than your fickle kindness.
(Note: I've been using "Mito" for clarity, but he only ever refers to her by her surname, Yamamoto)
Everyone gets tired after like 15 straight hours of construction work which naturally leads to...
Ruka, softly: Mito, what do you think of Ren?
Mito: He's always looking out for me, he's a good guy.
Ruka: I... may have found my destined partner *describes meeting girl!Mito*
Mito: (I'M HIS DESTINED PARTNER??)
Ruka: Mito, even if I marry this woman... I want you to always be by my side. Will you support me as you always have?
Mito: Yes, of course!
She feels both happy and sad, which I have trouble NOT reading as a gender thing. Like, if she fully becomes his female Destined Partner, she no longer gets to live as his male homoerotic buddy.
As Ruka snores, Ren pulls her towards him and whispers "Go out with me on Saturday. I'll tell you about the humans who've become a vampire's destined partner".
The next morning, Ruka says "I will always protect Mito as his best friend. I'll show you my kindness isn't fickle".
Ren: Then as his 'best friend' stay out of our business.
Ruka tries to convince himself this is Fine Actually. I like that the only homophobia we see in this show is internal, directed toward's people's own feelings, but they're always ok with other people being in m/m relationships (in principle, if they're not already in love with the dude themself, ofc).
And then Komori invites Ruka to a party this Saturday for a family he knows...
When Mito sees the mansion belonging to his mother's family that he grew up in, she realises he is not the Poverty Buddy she'd always assumed haha. Maids spill out welcoming back "the young master".
His mother hugs him and tearfully apologises for leaving him alone for TEN YEARS then says she'll transform Mito into a beautiful young lady. She says she has an "intuition" for these things but I'm pretty sure she just got told by the dad, the music/voice etc all scream VILLAIN.
Mito keeps her hair short, I guess cos explaining the wig would bring up too many questions, but gets done up in a pretty white dress.
Mito: Um. What's it like to be a vampire's destined partner?
Mom: It's wonderful. Even if you have to be separated from your family, or child :) You get to stay with the one you love and live as a vampire in the Land of Vampires for Eternity! It was hard staying away from Ren but I have no regrets :)
Afaict Mito is thinking "Ok being with Ruka forever sounds great and I don't have any family I care about, but shouldn't abandoning your own child be more of a big deal??"
Since vampirism doesn't appear to turn people evil, I'm wondering if Ren's mom just always sucked as a person and Ren only noticed after she was turned. Which would definitely explain his Issues and make him trying so hard to separate Ruka and Mito more understandable.
Evil dad: My wife and I have been away on business overseas. Tonight we are here for my son, heir to the Nokaido company to celebrate his engagement!
Mito, standing next to Ren in a spotlight: His what?? WAIT IS THAT RUKA?? D:
We flash back to Ren's dad telling him that Mito is the destined Bride of the vampire world, and by marrying her Ren can escape being a dhampir and become it's Vampire Leader.
Ren: Ridiculous >:(
Dad: Let me sweeten the deal: if you drink her blood on your 17th birthday, you can wish for your heart's desire!
In the present, we see him think "If you weren't a woman, you wouldn't be Ruka's!" and he bites her neck.
Me: Wait, so his wish is... ???
She pushes him away and runs into the garden.
Ruka: Mito, are you alright?!
Mito, throwing herself into his arms: I didn't know about any of it! And I'm fine, this dress is just a bit tight.
Ruka: I know. I can't believe they went so far as to make you dress like a girl!
Mito: (wait, if he knows I'm a girl, we can be together...)
Ruka: If this dress is too tight, I'll unzip it.
Mito: Wait! ...wait...

I'm sure she'll get turned back but I expect at least one confession of love while she's in this form, show. Don't let me down now!
I'm trying not to get my hopes up for anything more than that, but can't help remembering the bit in the manga chapter set in the future where she says "I'm a boy right now" rather than "I'm dressed as a boy right now". If she flips back and forth that would be AMAZING BEYOND MY WILDEST DREAMS. And if she doesn't in canon, well, she will in my heart ;)
Also, yes, Bad Ren, don't do magical gender re-assignment surgery on people without their consent, hopefully he realises it was wrong and apologises and then... idek. Gets over Mito and falls for... Juri? That One Girl Who Went On A Date With Mito? I hope that at the very least they don't do the typical "oh your parents actually always loved you and were Good it's just a misunderstanding" thing.

I'm trying not to get my hopes up for anything more than that, but can't help remembering the bit in the manga chapter set in the future where she says "I'm a boy right now" rather than "I'm dressed as a boy right now". If she flips back and forth that would be AMAZING BEYOND MY WILDEST DREAMS. And if she doesn't in canon, well, she will in my heart ;)
Also, yes, Bad Ren, don't do magical gender re-assignment surgery on people without their consent, hopefully he realises it was wrong and apologises and then... idek. Gets over Mito and falls for... Juri? That One Girl Who Went On A Date With Mito? I hope that at the very least they don't do the typical "oh your parents actually always loved you and were Good it's just a misunderstanding" thing.
