I'm quite happy with how it looks right now. You can see my earlier experiments on the 'hair' tag.

Overall: great success. I continue to absolutely love having blue/purple hair. Every time I see myself in the mirror it makes me happy, even when it's looking a bit faded/grown out.

So I have semi-successfully dyed my hair blue! I'm going to describe how for my own reference as much as anything, since I didn't quite follow any one technique. Also I was started on this journey by a post years ago by [personal profile] rachelmanija where she posted her cool oil slick hair, so maybe this will inspire someone else :)

So here is my hair bleached, and then dyed. You can see the half-bleached purple streak in the top right photo.
my head from various angles, showing it bleached except for the roots, and then dyed in blues and purples.

I did a combination of oil slick (dark blues, greens, and purples, blending to the natural hair colour at the roots) and galaxy (blue and purple jewel tones) Other similar styles are peacock and mermaid.

Me with asymettric dark curly hair and a purple streak

I have finally successfully gotten my hair approximately the way I want it! Getting it into an asymmetric cut with a purple streak has been a long term project since my hair is very dark chaotically frizzy waves that insist on a centre part.

Next: a neater and less aggressively asymettrical version of the same cut, letting all the other dye attempts grow out (my hair is usually slightly darker than this), and maybe oil slick style dark vibrant streaks in multiple colours.

Below the cut, how I did it, for anyone who might find that useful.

I have a bunch of questions I can't figure out the answers to, mostly I can find general guides online but need local people to help answer them with specific answers for Perth/Australia. But general advice would be helpful too.

They just trimmed/shaved the bottom 8cm or so at the nape of my neck, which neatens up my shaggy self-cut do. Also I just like the feel when that hair is short.

They were endearingly nervous about screwing it up but did a great job for a first attempt and said they'd be happy to do it again. They bought a clipper and everything.

No photo because it's mostly hidden by the rest of my hair. It'll be interesting to see what happens when it grows out, since my hair can be pretty chaotic when it's short.

I've been meaning to post this for a while but it suddenly occurred to me that right now it might be useful beyond my original expected audience of fellow severely disabled people.

So! I have been experimenting with cutting my own hair. These experiments have had mixed results, but for me it's been worth it. I have chaotic, thin, wavy hair that always looks kind of messy, and have been cutting it to about jaw level.

Thank you to everyone who said nice things on my flower-crown post, my brain is refusing to come up with replies to comments (as is often the case with personal posts for some reason) but they were all much appreciated :)

Now, since you've all just seen what I look like: I'm trying to decide what to do with my hair, and would appreciate advice!

Got my hair cut today! Went to the first decent looking hairdresser in the shopping centre, JTs at Morley, and it ended up costing $83 (!!) But I quite like it.

1) Can anyone rec a halfway decent hairdresser in the north eastern metro area? I got some good recs last time I asked but they were all in Subiaco etc which is a bit far.

2)For those who've played Skyrim, is the levelling less annoying than Oblivion? I think I can only enjoy these sorts of games if levelling up feels like a good thing, or at least value neutral, and Oblivion took all the fun out of it. The other main thing that bugged me was the shallowness of the connection with other characters, especially the way companions could permanently die without fanfare in some random battle.

I dyed my hair today since the streaks I got put in last time were looking really crap.

I got a bit sick of the roots showing quite so starkly so put a copper rinse through my hair, the streaks came up more medium brown than copper but since that's what I wanted in the first place I'm happy enough.

As you can see from my jacket, it is cold today.

I got my hair cut today, and decided on a semi-whim to get streaks put in. Unfortunately I'm only really up to going to the hairdresser on the corner, who is ok but not fantastic, and its not quite what I wanted but I'll live with it.

It won't stay this straight for long, I'm suprised it didn't re-curl before I got home :)

Does anyone else think I look kind of like [livejournal.com profile] gelignite? Well, our hair looks similarish anyway :)

Since [livejournal.com profile] lilysea asked for a photo last time and I forgot, and this way I have a record for next time.
