Overall: great success. I continue to absolutely love having blue/purple hair. Every time I see myself in the mirror it makes me happy, even when it's looking a bit faded/grown out.

I've only bleached it once more since my first post. By this point all the back part had grown out and I switched to just bleaching the front 10cm or so because bleaching and dying the back of my head was a PAIN.

I left strands of hair unbleached within that front section, to create more of a textured effect, which worked pretty well. I bleached to the tip, which on the plus side made the ends of those strands super white but on the down side made the ends of those strands VERY UNHAPPY since they'd been bleached 3 times at this point. So next time I'll try just doing the unbleached/half-bleached roots (it takes two bleaches to get the hair a nice shade) and hope I don't screw up the edges.

Doing balayage and always staying a few cm from my scalp means it always looks a little grown out, but I don't get stark roots or horrible dermatitis. I'm thinking I might switch to bleaching a narrower band at the front, for both practical and aesthetic reasons.

I have dyed my hair a bunch more times, since the dye starts looking sad after a month or so. I haven't done the full galaxy effect again since the first time because it was a lot of work. Instead I have done:

1: multiple purples and blues. 2: purple over faded blue. 3: single blue.

1: (I don't remember which of these the photo is of)
A combo of dark purple at the root and dark blue at the tip, and dark blue at the root and turquoise at the tip. This looked pretty good!

Dark purple on all the roots, two similar blues on the tips. This looked reasonably good.

2:
At this point the purple/blue gradient was pretty stark even with the colours faded so I decided to even everything out with a lavender dye (Manic Panic Purple Haze). This looked like faded oil slick hair, not very exciting but it did even things out a little.

3:
Most recently I dyed everything with a single vivid blue (Manic Panic Blue Moon) which comes out looking kinda turquoise on my slightly yellow hair. This looks ok and was less effort than the multicolour stuff.

I think I'll do another multicolour dye job next time, I do prefer how that looks. I'm thinking I might try dark purple on the top and blue underneath, make the roots less obvious.
