Further hair experiments!
Nov. 6th, 2021 11:41 amI'm quite happy with how it looks right now. You can see my earlier experiments on the 'hair' tag.

I dyed it in a sleepy rush at like 11pm last night so am pretty happy with how it turned out.
The slightly different look was attained by combination of two things:
1) When I re-bleached the hair, I left some thin sections entirely unbleached. This creates more texture and variation in shade.
2) I dyed the hair in layers of thin strands, each strand a different colour, but used the same colour along the full length of each strand. To make things easier I just grabbed globs of colour with my (gloved) hands and smooshed them along the strand instead of bothering with multiple brushes. This caused the colours to blend together a bit but that's not a bad thing! I wiped my hands on the unbleached part of my hair between colours to get rid of excess dye.
3) I must have washed it out too thoroughly or missed a bunch of spots since the colours came out a bit muted, but I like it. So I guess doing it sleepily at 11pm is a key part of the process too ;)
Something I've realised is that because the base bleached hair is kinda yellow, and there's always some lingering blue dye, the colours end up mixed with green. So to create anything approaching a vivid purple, I have to use magenta dye, while purple ends up more blue, and blue ends up turquoise. Since I don't want green hair I guess I won't be using my turquoise dye again any time soon!
I smooshed the leftover dye into all the unbleached parts of my hair at the end, it'll all wash out pretty soon but it's not like I had any better use for it, and for now my grey hairs are subtly purple. Overall I kinda like the way my grey hairs work with this kind of colour, they don't hold onto dye very well so create patches of white sparkling amongst the blues and browns, like stars.
