alias_sqbr: Asterix-like magnifying glass over Perth, Western Australia (australia 2)

Two things worth noting for the upper house (the big form):
1) Parties no longer get to say where your preferences go, whether you vote above or below the line. The only preferences that flow on are the ones you specifically mark. If you vote only a single "1" above the line, no preferences from you will flow on at all if that party doesn't get in.
2) The minimum number of preferences above the line is 1. The minimum below the line is 20.

(and for the vast majority of you who are not in Western Australia, enjoy some not-especially-depressing political info with no effect on your life)

Here's more answers to questions from this post.

[personal profile] fred_mouse: Tell me about something you can see from your window?

[personal profile] brainwane: Are there words you particularly enjoy reading, hearing, writing or saying? Or particular numbers that delight you? Could you share any words you remember learning in the last few years?

[personal profile] skygiants: If you could pick an iconic adventuring outfit, and practicality was no consideration -- say you were designing a personal sim for an immersive virtual world in which you were about to have a sff adventure -- what would it be?

Transcript below the cut, with image descriptions. The sound worked better this time since I made sure to shut down everything but the recording software and text editor.

Here's the video of me answering the first three questions from this post.

Transcript with image descriptions under the cut.

I used Youtube's automatic captions and they were like 95% accurate, very useful. Apologies for the bad sound quality in the second half as my laptop starting complaining about being forced to record video. Further questions will be useful for experimenting with better sound recording options!

Also sorry if I mispronounced anyone's username!

I got my second Pfizer shot on Saturday. The process was much the same, and a few days on the symptoms have only been a little worse, mostly just a sorer arm. And no sore throat so far! So I'm resting up and feeling good to have it done.

The title of this post is a reference to hotvickkrishna's great fork-based explanations for Covid Vaccines, which start with How the mRNA Vaccine 💉 works.

I did a meme on Tumblr where I would do a audio/voice post on any topic I was given. And kentsarrow gave me the topic maths! If you don't like maths you can ignore me and watch my cat wondering that on earth is going on :D

I edited and recut it a bit to remove errors and repetition, something that ended up getting lost is the fact that if you stick with maths when you think you're bad, and get competent help with the aspects you're struggling with, you should be able to achieve a lot of improvement, and maybe even find you're not "bad at maths" after all. Skills are more learned than innate (something I need to remind myself of more often, I would say, based on this stream of consciousness rant)

A very sweet video about Anne, one of the catering staff from UWA. The fast montage of the walk from the front of the uni to the guild gave me such a nostalgic feeling.

I was, for various reasons, expecting to feel utterly terrible today, so when I didn't was at a bit of a loss. But now I have done some chores and am feeling accomplished, and just as I was completely out of things to do the expected sleepiness seems to be coming in.

Inspired by various fanmixes(*) I made Kids and Fun, a Homestuck fanmix. Going through iTunes and thinking about fannish interpretations of songs was SO MUCH FUN and is way easier than vidding :)

A recent post by twtd suggested To Who it May Concern as a Doctor/River vid, and that got me thinking about other songs that can be read as being (or are explicitly) about time travel.

After the Hottest 100 there were a couple of alternative polls done. Two I've come across with compiled results and youtube vids:
Purrdence's Not the Triple J Poll
Hottest 100 Women

I haven't finished Purrdence's poll yet, but I was suprised at how much I liked the songs in the women poll, my favourite bands with female singers were disproportionately represented, and my favourite male vocalist even got a showing :)

My muse has been making vague rumblings about the possibilities of video-blogging (or something, my muse is pretty vague when she's working on a new idea), but part of me didn't want to think about it in case it all turned out to be Too Hard.

So I had a brief play around with the software to see what it was like. Not too hard, actually, and the file is pretty small. Thus: A brief and rather pointless video-blog entry (link to file, right-click save-as etc)

No cats were permanently harmed in the making of this video :)

Let me know if you have trouble downloading/watching etc.
(I was reminded to do this after [livejournal.com profile] mothwentbad expressed curiosity as to what my accent sounds like. So now you know)

Given how impossible I am to understand at the best of times, even without bad audio, a transcript (minus "um"s):
Hi, I wanted to try out this videoblogging thing, but I had no idea what to say, so I thought I'd just pick up the cat, and say "Hi I'm Sophie, this is Kira", say hello Kira, (Kira does not say hello) thus proving myself to be a complete cat lady. And that's all I have to say.

I'm sure any hearing impaired people reading this are SO glad not to have missed out on that scintillating dialogue :D
