So I finished the Imperial Agent storyline, and overall quite liked it! I did think it could have been a lot more clever/nuanced, I kept unfavourably comparing it to Andor. Also all the sidequests I did to level up were pretty meh, and even the good bits felt underwritten. But overall I had a good time.

After finishing the story and deciding I didn't want to continue on into the expansions with this character (for spoilery reasons explored below), I tried out the Jedi Consular and Jedi Knight stories and well... let's say I ended up just restarting the Imperial Agent storyline with a new Agent I hopefully will want to do the expansions with.

I'm enjoying it much more since I learned to tell the difference between class quests (the plot arc for my character) and location quests (self contained stories designed to be playable at any time by multiple classes) They have the same colour icon but the location quests are entirely skippable and mostly kinda boring/depressing. Skipping them has vastly sped up the pace. I'm now a bit under-levelled but that just makes the combat sometimes very slightly challenging. If I do end up doing some location quests to level up I'll at least not be wondering how this random digression is supposed to fit into the overall narrative, because it isn't.

And now that I've seen more of the plot, and have realised which parts of the earlier plot were unrelated sidequests, I'm quite getting into it!

Here's my character Labriar in her current state:

No Spoilers, just a picture
My Star Wars characters, a tall pale woman with neat stubble, facial scars, and cybernetic implants on her temples, with dark broiwn hair in a ponytail. She's wearing a long black jacket over tight dark clothing with a coppery breastplate thing.

It took me quite a while to find an outfit that was even remotely androgynous and not just shrink-wrapped to her dramatic curves. I mean to try poking at her features and colouring a little more once I have more premium currency (I spent it all unlocking hairstyles etc in advance and refuse to spend more than my subscription if I can possibly help it).

I got a new chair! And then I realised I could install the game on steam and stream to my laptop in bed and now I just use the chair to play puzzle games while cooking dinner but the point is I have been playing a bunch of SWTOR.

It continues to be fun!

I've been wanting to play this MMO for ages, since I'd heard it's a very easy to play Bioware game with an interesting plot that you can easily treat as a single player game.

But the universe kept getting in my way, mostly in the form of network problems on my PC. And then a few days ago, I finally got to play it!

BRIEFLY. Just long enough to decide I liked it enough to pay for a subscription. And the universe LAUGHED IN MY FACE and TOOK IT AWAY >:( First my computer died, and then the game went down for maintenance, and then my computer died again, and then the weather was too hot to sit in that room all of a sudden...and then when all of that was dealt with, and I sat down to play...MY CHAIR COLLAPSED BENEATH ME.

I wasn't injured, thankfully, but I still sat on the floor for a while feeling very sorry for myself.

So now I am on my not-SWTOR-capable Mac laptop writing a dreamwidth post and feeling hard done by.

But from what I have seen, it's pretty fun. Very Bioware, for both good and ill.
Now that I'm done whining, an actual review )
