Plenty!

Went to The Little Shop of Plenty in Maylands today with [personal profile] lilysea and had quite a lovely time.

It's as expensive and pretentious as it looks but they HAD FOOD I COULD EAT and the staff were all very friendly and helpful, so I'd still rec it to anyone with dairy/soy/gluten/meat issues who's ok with most of the dishes containing raw vegetables or coconut (sigh) and drinking out of a jar.

I drank a blackberry smoothie made with their in house almond milk, which was SUPER creamy and quite nice once I added extra sugar (which Lily had thoughtfully brought with her, the provided sugar is all made from the nectar of coconut flowers) And at least the jar didn't have a handle. (WHAT'S WRONG WITH CUPS)

The only mains I could (mostly) eat was lupin tempeh with grilled mushrooms, quinoa, and cashew based creme fraiche. Would probably have been nicer with the mixed greens I had removed but was still pretty tasty once I added (pink) salt, and satisfyingly different from the usual things I eat out.

Lupin tempeh was less "a thing I can eat" and more "a thing I did not even realise was a food so let's give it a shot" and it tasted ok and didn't make me horribly ill but I think next time I'll ask them to replace it with an egg. I got the same "This tastes weird and will also probably make you sick" feeling I get from eating soy bean stuff, so congratulations on mimicking actual tempeh I guess? The creme fraiche, while satisfyingly creamy, was too sour for me to eat quite so much of.

I also had a free sample of the date and nut based peppermint fudge which was ok, but much like other date-and-nut based bars I've had. I think my main enjoyment was the peppermint, since I haven't been able to eat that in larger than free-sample level quantities for a few years. Looking at the site it has coconut oil in it because OF COURSE IT DOES.

All that cost $32. Right now I feel a little odd, but it was worth it to have a genuinely interesting and original meal. I don't get those very often. Lily can eat more of the menu and speaks well of all the mains she's tried.

Have been feeling under the weather, these things have made me feel better about it.

Flight rising: A dragon breeding/raising sim. Not super exciting since most things can only be done once a day (resetting at 3pm local time) but it's cute and I get the feeling will be increasingly more fun as I build resources.

Bounce Energy balls Ridiculously overpriced vegan fudgey nut things that are nowhere near as healthy as they claim but taste quite nice for something that doesn't set off my intolerances. The vegan ones are Cashew Pecan, Fudgie Walnut and Spirulina. Haven't tried the Spirulina yet.

Wysp Bills itself as an artist-centered (eg concrit and improvement rather than exhibition) gallery site, not sure I'll actually use it for that but the sketch practice is nicely set up. Assuming you want to sketch hands, dragons, or male anatomy.

(This Let's Play of) Hatoful Boyfriend It starts as a pigeon dating sim and gets weirder from there.

The Wa Gokoro Japanese restaurant in Morley. Wheelchair accessible, near the shopping centre/bus station, relatively cheap and quite nice.

And finally: making dreamwidth posts to procrastinate about answering my email... >.>

Since it can be hard to think of them when organising get togethers, and because others may find them useful. I'll try and make note of vegetarian friendliness and general attention to allergies. The main cuisines I can eat are steak and vegetables, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and Vietnamese. All are wheelchair friendly and near public transport, this is places I can get to on my own, if I'm getting a lift it's much easier!

Will add more to this tag as I think of them!

Currently reading "Candy Girl: A year in the life of an unlikely stripper", the autobiography of Diablo Cody, author of "Juno". It's enjoyable enough, though she's relying a bit on the reader being all "OMG stripping, how wierd!!" and the novelty of Real People Like I Might Know doing stripping wore off for me a while ago...(n.b. the title of this post is the start of the first line)

And just to show there's really no theme, a restaurant:

I and Cam drove out to North Beach for lunch today, the restaurant we had been going to go to was shut down so we chose the next most likely looking place, "The Wild Fig". It was quite nice, they actually had a milky smoothie which was free of dairy and soy (almond, dates, ice, and flavoring. A bit over honeyed but nice enough), and did a pretty good job of constructing me a meal I could eat (vegan breakfast + egg) Cakes were all buttery though :(

Well, now I've run out of constructive things to do online I guess I better go do some more cleaning before the rent inspection :(
