I got overexcited about AO3 having the option for creating prompt memes and made one for Jane Austen's novels. Someone other than me has left prompts already, it's very exciting!

I have no strong commitment to or feelings about running it, if anyone else has Ideas I'm open to suggestions and I'd be quite happy to share the job. Still, hopefully it should largely run itself. Nnng, me and my big ideas /o\

First, something NOT ABOUT HOMESTUCK OMG

Pride and Prejudice IN SPACE
by ~sqbr on deviantART and Pride and Prejudice IN SPACE at Tumblr

And now a bunch of Homestuck art. Some of this came out quite pretty, imo, plus there's an Avatar the Last Airbender crossovery thing. Descriptions at each link.

I think one of the reason I keep creating so much Homestuck art is the active, friendly fanart community, even though any individual picture of mine rarely gets many comments it's nice being part of a bustling creative discussion.

Plus [livejournal.com profile] yuletart has started, I've started reccing Homestuck at [community profile] fanart_recs and I have my [community profile] white_lotus assignment. *is a happy little fanartist*

A hundred million Homestuck pictures under the cut )

And now to try in vain to draw for a different fandom...

Chapters 17 and 18 are now uploaded. The story is also at FF.net (and of course they went down for maintenance when I was four chapters into uploading it, but it's done now)

"Wedding is Destiny (and hanging likewise)" is the Anne de Bourgh/Mary Bennet fic I started for a lark to try out the AO3 beta in October 2008 having never written fanfic before. And it finally feels like it's actually going somewhere at last! Though I think I'm going to give up on the quotes at the start of each chapter. And since my attempts at fixing various errors seem to end up half the time with me overwriting the new version with the old one I'm not going to stress about the many errors I noticed today, though I did fix any blatantly broken html.

Most of these don't have transcripts, sorry.

Jane Austen's Fight Club A fake trailer for a remake of "Fight Club" to being about regency women trying to find some purpose in their disaffected socially bound lives. Works surprisingly well while still just as silly as you'd expect.

Aang is the Best Guide EVER My favourite piece of "Legend of Korra" fanart so far.

And now some Inceptiony stuff. I thought Inception would be the kind of film noone would make fluffy fanworks about but it turns out I was utterly wrong. Alas for me(*) most of it seems to be porn, which may indicate that people's inspiration is the prettiness of the cast rather than the cleverness of the ideas...

Fanart by me: Arthur and his hair Very silly, but the image refused to go away. Has a description. Somewhat inspired by...

PRETTY PRETTY INCEPTION Cracky and spoilery but fun fancomic. (I'm never sure how I feel about the gender issues around the "Lol men playing at being princesses" thing, but that's not all there is to the joke here)

Dissecting 'Inception': Six Interpretations and Five Plot Holes Sensible text rather than silly pictures. I like that "things are exactly as stated in the film" is considered the least plausible interpretation :)

(*)Porn can explore clever ideas perfectly well, but it's not really my thing, and in particular I think the emotional and physical understatedness of the film is one of the things I liked and so I find it jarring when it's contradicted by fic. Also there's too much Arthur/Eames and not enough Arthur/Ariadne and Cobb/Saito

Sense and Sensibility: Henry

This is for the fic To extend a tendril of the heart by [personal profile] ar which has Margaret from Sense and Sensibility grow up to be a trans man and explorer.

Since people seem to miss the notes where I say these things and then I feel oogy when they compliment me: the background is photoshopped from a photo, not done from scratch.

Chapter 15.

There are a few aspects I think may be anachronistic but I decided to just get it out then maybe mess with it later.

I am having Issues with Chapter 16 for spoilery reasons but seem to have gotten over the main issue. Chapter 17 is going to be difficult though.

Chapter 14 of Wedding is Destiny.

The old chapter 14 was notes and acknowledgements, I redistributed it all with the new "notes at the end" option and deleted it..only to realise I'd lost half my comments! ARGH. So I sent in a help request, and they got them back for me (yay!) and are apparently working on a "Do you want to delete your comments too?" option. All part of being in a beta I guess :)

Also: I'm putting the chapters online as I go because if I wait until it's all finalised (or even betaed) it's all too much pressure and noone will get to read it until like 2013, and am posting updates here since someone asked. But it's definitely a WiP, eg I got the name of the local parish wrong and am going to have to go back and change all the references!

Following on from What annoys me about fanfic meta about itself, the OTHER thing that annoys me about "fanfic" meta about itself is the assumption by people in the american dominated english speaking scifi-con-culture-associated mostly-inspired-by-mainstream-tv-and-movies LJ-based metafandom-reading part of fanfic-and-other-related-fannish-creations fandom (also known in some circles as Ponies) is that that's either ALL there is to fanfic-and-other-related-fannish-creations fandom, or that they/we are at least the central or most important part.

I was reminded of this by [livejournal.com profile] hlbr(*), who pointed out that I was making EXACTLY the same assumption myself. Oops.

Anyway, to counteract that, some meta about another part of fanfic-and-other-related-fannish-creations fandom:In which I talk about Jane Austen fandom )

My next Prompt: "the characters from a fandom, in steampunk gear..Pride and Prejudice! Or Temeraire".

Unfortunately, the only characters I can think of good in-character steampunky ideas for are minor ones like Wickham or Mr Bennet, though the idea of regency steampunk is really interesting in general. But I was inspired to make a picture of Lady Catherine and Miss Anne De Bourgh which I think came out quite well. Now that that's out of my system I might be able to draw someone else. Maybe I'll give Temeraire a go instead. And of course there's [livejournal.com profile] black_samvara's prompt, which I *am* inspired by, I just have some details I'm nutting out.

EDIT: Wait, I just noticed the sentence "Or as cats". HMMM.

Looking at 18th century vs 19th century technology (P&P was written around the turn of those centuries), I decided the main difference was how unfinished everything looks, since they're just figuring things out as they go along. So I decided to try to get that across. Also it was fun mimicking the art style of the time. I accidentally scanned the image in at a really low resolution :(

I recommend not looking too closely sat the workings of the carriage :)
