via Hoyden about town, a real life Mary Sue Draco in leather pants AU music video (nominally het, but you could read it as Draco/Dr Doom if you had enough imagination)

Seriously, it's amazingly fantastically terrible, if you have any interest at all in watching a skinny blonde guy with a bad moustache fight dragons while playing pop music on a sparkling green guitar :D

A while ago [livejournal.com profile] distantcam and I did a joint amazon order, consisting largely of graphic novels and programming texts. Amazon just sent me an email about books that "people with my tastes" might like, and as might be expected I have no idea what the titles actually mean but find them amusing regardless.

I wonder if buying this would put us on a CIA watch list? :D

On Saturday night I couldn't decide what to cook with the ingredients I had to hand, so looked them up in google, but I forgot to add "spinach" so just had "Beef mince recipe", and what with the internet being largely american, and american cuisine being, uh, intensely idtastic(*) I came across some very not-diet-friendly dishes, one of which was so bizarre I had to try it (modified to my tummy's requirements)

I give you: Adriana's Pasta Pie, a mix of pasta, sauce, and cheese, covered in cheese, in a crust made of cheese..and meat.

Of course, I made it without the cheese, which kind of defeats the purpose, but it was still quite satisfyingly meaty(**). You might be able to make a vegetarian version with chickpea patty mix I guess?

The other promising recipe (to my tastes) was Southwestern Baked Spaghetti (which might not suffer so much from a de-cheesing). Also, googling "meat crust" got me Low Carb Meat Crust Pizza, which gets my vote for most undiety diet food ever, I guess at least they tell you to drain the grease...

EDIT: Via [livejournal.com profile] lauredhel, the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] trashy_eats. Mm. Tasty.

(*)I'm trying to use less ablist language, or the term I would have used there is INSANE
(**) If you're curious, the changes I made were to replace the sauce with bottled sauce (1.5 hours to make pasta sauce?) plus garlic, basil, spinach and tomato paste and half an egg (to make up for the flavour and goopiness of cheese respectively), and I added some smoked garlic and tomato paste to the meat to make it tastier. Oh, and I only made two servings so cooked it for less time. It made a nice lunch today, too.

So, several years ago one of Swancon's guests was the Doctor Who author Kate Orman. I didn't pay that much attention because you know, I don't like Dr Who *cough*, but she seemed pretty cool and I think we may have had a nice conversation at some point (it was a long time ago, and my brain leaks)

Now a year or so ago I joined the anti-racist community [livejournal.com profile] debunkingwhite. A little while ago I decided to start posting a bit about racism in australia since I couldn't find anywhere else better to do so(*), and another australian, [livejournal.com profile] seeingred, was very enthusiastic and posted some stuff as well. I've seen her here and there on the internet with her "redheads against racism" icon (which somewhat inspired one of mine), and we've had a few pleasant conversations, and she seems pretty cool.

A month or so ago I discovered the Dr Who macro community [livejournal.com profile] icanhastardis. I've gotten a lot of enjoyment from it, but have noticed a bit of friction over the rather strict spoiler policy, cheerfully but firmly enforced by the mod, who I decided was a bit odd but to be commended for running such a large and worthwhile community, and overall..pretty cool.

So (and I think you can see where this is going), today I killing time on the internet and came across a post(**) about this lj user who was involved in a bit of a kerfuffle in Dr Who fandom, and it mentioned some of the drama around the way she mods [livejournal.com profile] icanhastardis.

Her name? [livejournal.com profile] kateorman, aka [livejournal.com profile] seeingred.

How I managed to not recognise her name on all the mod posts (and in great shiny letters on her other lj) I do not know.

Anyway, I just had to share :) I am otherwise taking a day off thinking for I have a very busy day tomorrow, I intend to answer my piles of email some time after I gather the energy to wrap my brothers birthday present.

EDIT: checks out her userinfo and discovers she's been friended by nine of you guys, all of who are I'm sure laughing at me right now :P

(*)A well meaning gesture which has somewhat fallen to the wayside, because I am lazy and have a short attention span
(**)Which I won't link to, but I'm sure you can find if you really want. It's not very exciting, but I guess it is proof that no publicity os bad publicity :) I wouldn't have mentioned it at all but it was such a weird way to find out!

So, I need to draw more for practice, and I am also stuck at work without much to do and thus very tempted to surf the internet (which gives me headaches and thus cuts down on productivity, I say trying to spin this as somehow not anti-productivity) I am feeling uninspired, though.

So! Give me ideas for things to draw, and I will draw at least the first two. One per person. I may interpret things very loosley, the quality will almost certainly be REALLY low, and if I object to the idea I'll ignore it all together.

Will post any results.

Now... go!

EDIT: Now..stop! That filled in the afternoon nicely :)

The results:

So I stopped watching "House" early last season, and all I've encountered since then has been via fandom, ie bits of fanfic etc here and there, and some comments about how the writers are quite clearly pandering to fans and slashers etc. I was pretty sure it was still pretty understated (if not entirely in people's imaginations) though.

And then I randomly flipped channels to commercial tv for a change, and hit a trailer for the upcoming episode (8:30 on ten, if you care), which basically implied that House becomes obsessed with a male soap opera star and kidnaps him for his own nefarious purposes, a la Love and Death on Long Island. I sat there incredulous.. and then of course looked it up online.

Alas, the real plot, as exhibited by the american ad, is much less interesting :)

On the ohtr hand, how awesome is it that I can watch an ad and immediately find a synopsis of the episode and a similar ad for the same episode. I love the internet.

I find it amusing that I learnt about what is apparently a big political issue here from a webcomic from the complete other side of the world. (The fact that such a stupid thing is apparently an issue would be amusing if it wasn't so annoying)

So I'm googling "entrance ancient city" to figure out how to draw the next page of ACOS (I think I'm going to have to figure out a map of the whole city soon. Guh. My poor hard sciences brain is hurting!) and come across this link.

Which..huh. There's a plot point I hadn't considered :D

I am a lover of truth, a worshipper of freedom, a celebrant at the altar of language and purity and tolerance. That is my religion, and every day I am sorely, grossly, heinously and deeply offended, wounded, mortified and injured by a thousand different blasphemies against it. When the fundamental canons of truth, honesty, compassion and decency are hourly assaulted by fatuous bishops, pompous, illiberal and ignorant priests, politicians and prelates, sanctimonious censors, self-appointed moralists and busy-bodies, what recourse of ancient laws have I? None whatever. Nor would I ask for any. For unlike these blistering imbeciles my belief in my religion is strong and I know that lies will always fail and indecency and intolerance will always perish.

So, yeah, anything I missed please let me know (I'm aware of the scifi channel thing, pity it's not the real scifi channel) Anyone who wants our new address desperately please email me, I'll probably propagate it at some point but just spent the day cleaning and can't find anyones email addresses (and most of the ones I thought I had turn out to be wrong) and am very sleepy.

And now...a rest, and then dinner in a box, and then some of the finest tv shows the internet has to offer.

Guh. Not having the internet sucks. And all my email is bouncing right now, I can feeeeeel it. Last night I kept doing things and thinking "That was fun..well, enough of that, now I'll check my..ARGH! *sob*"

Was reduced to watching commercial tv, guh. Did end up watching an interesting doco on women getting into imam like roles in Morocco (missed the begining where they explained it) Also "Shock Docs: I woke up in a morgue!!" which was better than it sounds, and "The Closer", which was pretty crap.

And now I don't have any access at all till Saturday, and we may not get proper internet again till like Monday. I'm going to DIIIEEEEEeeeeeeee!!!

*waves goodbye, goes back into the dark ages like emptyness of a life without internet*

Oh noes!

Part of the process of moving means....no phone! And...NO INTERNET!!! For ages!!! (Like, a week, maybe more) From tomorrow.

God, I can feel the withdrawal already. Thankfully I have internet at work, though I don't get much chance to use it unless I come in early on purpose. So...yeah. Try not to forget I exist :( And our email may bounce, and our website will be down until it's all set up, so really all I'll have is lj. SIGHHHHH.

Anyway, house is ok. Bigger, except for the almost non existent dining room. Further from train, but hopefully walkable. Will have to have a housewarming at some point.

Or is lj broken, with crazy huge gaps at the top of flists and entries?

And now, some random thoughts.

I'm on the second of my three days off this week, it totally rocks. Yesterday I went out and finally had lunch at that Korean place whose smell torments me every time I take the walkway from the Perth train station past Crazy Clarks. It was quite nice. Also bought myself "St Elsewhere" by Gnarls Barkley (ok) and the best of Lamb (yay!).

Via [livejournal.com profile] mathsex, the best love song ever.

It's funny how the same words can change their meaning if I think a different person said them. For example, I occasionally mix up posts and comments by [livejournal.com profile] nico_wolfwood and [livejournal.com profile] nicholii. Unfortunately I don't think any of you know them both but trust me, they're very different people, so it's it's interesting how I interpret the words of one when I think it's being said by the other. It's also interesting when I come accross the lj/blog of someone I know and try to work out who it is, the tone and personality of the words contorting as I change the speaker in my mind.

Had a very surreal moment playing Final Fantsay 10 recently, when a new charcater was introduced and my brain said "You know her". After a few seconds I realised the character is the default icon of [livejournal.com profile] drucilla_death, the girlfriend of and a frequent commenter on(*) [livejournal.com profile] edible_hat.

Still kind of sick, though not enough to be a major nuisance.

(*)Note how in this sentence I use the username to denote both the person and the lj itself :)
