A comic I made about playing the online game Glitch:

Glitch on DeviantArt (It's not very readable on Tumblr, since DA can be weird for some people the transcript is below the cut)
I'm actually quite enjoying the game, and the slightly off kilter sense of humour charms me more than it weirds me out. I have three invites if anyone's interested. The fact that I just got given a quest to give gifts to lower levelled players is pure coincidence.
I think this is the first MMORPG I've played. I don't know how it compares to others, but basically you get given little quests and go around gathering/refining items, exploring, and learning skills (which often prompt new quests) I've found the rate of new quests etc has been about right to keep it fun, especially now I've bought an extra big bag so I can wander around harvesting stuff without having to juggle my inventory. It's totally free, but you can pay for appearance changing items and teleport tokens (otherwise you walk or take the train) I haven't taken much advantage of the social aspect and most of it's pretty solitary but you are encouraged to work together and do each other favours to some extent, plus there's global/local/private chat and groups (I've joined the dreamwidth group)
If you already have an account my avatar's name is Sequoia Baer.
Description: I've copied the art of the game through tracing and cut-and-paste. The style is cheerful and blocky, like a kids animated fantasy series. My avatar Sequoia looks like a little girl in a pink shirt and flouncy skirt.
Panel 1:
Bean Tree: Ahh, that water really hit the spot, thanks!
Sequoia (smiling): This game is pretty cute, it's a nice change from all the sex and violence in Dragon Age.
Panel 2:
Pig: Give me a pat and a nibble and I'll give you some meat
Sequoia (surprised): Ok that's a little... odd. Still cute though, I guess.
Panel 3: Later...
A butterfly flutters past a tree of cogs.
Sequoia: I have to do what to the butterfly?!

Date: 2011-10-23 12:04 pm (UTC)I have been finding the "give stuff to low-level peeps" quest to be really difficult! I went back to Bortola, thinking I would find more newbies there, but alas, no. Most people were higher than me, and the only one I found who was low-level was level 2, and I need to give stuff to people who are level 3-5. >_< I did finally find one person (not in Bortola, though! Really far away!) and gave them something, but I expect it will take me a while to find the other two.
I like that even though it's an MMORPG it's not heavy on the interaction. 99% of the stuff I can do on my own, and the stuff that does require other people isn't really that collaborative. The idea of MMORPGs has always been super unappealing to me. I don't understand why anyone would want to have to be reliant on other people to be able to play a game...

Date: 2011-10-23 02:34 pm (UTC)I found one level 3 player by hanging around and checking the profile of everyone who entered. I then found another level 5 player, one who was even after a specific cheap thing (an orange)...then gave it to the wrong person, and by the time I'd converted and given another orange to the level 5 person, they'd leveled up! But at least they were were happy :)
I JUST bought a house. It's very exciting.

Date: 2011-10-24 12:32 am (UTC)We don't play it unless we have an intervention team handy, we are finding it very addictive. One thing I really like about it is that you don't have to be playing it to be learning your skills, you can set and forget.
