I'm actually quite enjoying the game, and the slightly off kilter sense of humour charms me more than it weirds me out. I have three invites if anyone's interested. The fact that I just got given a quest to give gifts to lower levelled players is pure coincidence.
I think this is the first MMORPG I've played. I don't know how it compares to others, but basically you get given little quests and go around gathering/refining items, exploring, and learning skills (which often prompt new quests) I've found the rate of new quests etc has been about right to keep it fun, especially now I've bought an extra big bag so I can wander around harvesting stuff without having to juggle my inventory. It's totally free, but you can pay for appearance changing items and teleport tokens (otherwise you walk or take the train) I haven't taken much advantage of the social aspect and most of it's pretty solitary but you are encouraged to work together and do each other favours to some extent, plus there's global/local/private chat and groups (I've joined the dreamwidth group)

Sequoia (smiling): This game is pretty cute, it's a nice change from all the sex and violence in Dragon Age.

Pig: Give me a pat and a nibble and I'll give you some meat
Sequoia (surprised): Ok that's a little... odd. Still cute though, I guess.

A butterfly flutters past a tree of cogs.
Sequoia: I have to do what to the butterfly?!
