Well, OTW elections have opened, and at this point I feel pretty comfortable saying that whatever you do with your first four preferences, vote Naomi Novik last (or not at all, if you aren't going to use all five preferences). Here's a fairly short summary why that I just came across. But all five candidates are hard working, talented, decent people with the best interests of fandom at heart (even if I may disagree with NN's methods), and hopefully whoever ends up on the board they'll be able to work together to make the OTW the best it can be.

Had people over for Daria tonight, and alas the disk was scratched so we had to stop. Still, conversation, nougat, and the surprising deliciousness of Sunrice apple and cinnamon rice cakes made it somehow bearable. But now my body is grumpy at me for eating too much sugar.

If the new AO3 skins are bugging you like they were me, go to the public skins, "Snow" is pretty close to the old settings. It would be nice if I could have learned about this from the AO3 instead of via my network :/ A tutorial would be nice too, I find the way skins are set up confusing and I have a computer science major (what is "chaining"?)

Speaking of the OTW, elections are coming up soon, and I have a vote this time! Unfortunately things have gone very pear-shaped recently causing a lot of pain to a lot of people, but hopefully the organisation can learn from it and grow stronger as a result. hl's endorsements in this post have been backed up by other people's I've seen, especially Julia Beck and Jenny Scott-Thompson(*), though Lucy Pearson has since dropped out. Here's a big collection of lots of links.

This is a nice description of how the preferential voting will work (in unlabelled pictures). One thing that may not be clear to people who are less familiar with this type of voting: if there's someone you really don't want on the board, number all the boxes and put that person last. In general, numbering all the boxes is the best way to make sure your vote counts.

(*)Who are, I must admit, the two I know personally. But this means I would have noticed if I'd seen anyone say a word against them, and I haven't.

For anyone who wants in on the Archive of Our Own and doesn't get updates, the open-ish Beta should start this weekend, to get an account you add your email address to a queue or ask a current account holder for an invite. Afaict we only get one and mine is spoken for, sorry!

See that thing about how they'll no longer automatically delete comments when you delete a chapter? That was me! As in, I accidentally fell afoul of it, I didn't fix it :)

(For anyone wondering, An Archive of Our Own is a fanfic archive)
