Wrote some semi original fiction omg! One for the Jukebox "write a story about a song" exchange, another for a writing meme I made up myself. Also did some art for that limited palette meme that's been going around tumblr, which was super fun.

Spare Change (1393 words), The Man Who Sold the World, Teen And Up, Horror, Fantasy, Original Fiction, Fanfiction, Inspired by Music, Genderqueer Character
Summary:Two friends meet by chance long after both have died.

The Most Talked About Night Of The Season (5355 words) G, No Warnings, Fantasy, Regency, Happy Ending, Fae & Fairies, Non-Graphic Violence
Summary: Maisie was in no mood for a ball. She always felt like a fool in formal wear. The ball was full of Pixies and Slyphs looking lovely in ensembles much like hers, but delicate ringlets and a ruffled dress were far less flattering on a seven foot tall Lob covered in hair.

A colouring tutorial

Literally every comment on Spare Change has used the word "creepy" :D On one hand I'm quite happy with the story, on the other hand want to stop thinking about it so I can GET THAT SONG OUT OF MY HEAD.

And now....art!

Moving has horribly sapped my creativity, but while the mess is still not resolved I feel like I have some breathing space now. So! Stuff what I have made! Thank you to everyone who left me prompts, they were great.

An actual commission! For money! It was an interesting experience, but I am putting off trying it again until my life is more settled.

Feeling tired and grumpy with the after effects of what I think was very mild food poisoning. And it turns out I haven't done one of these since April!

My new fannish infatuation is Welcome to Night Vale, and I actually got like 100 tumblr notes on my comic, which is about 95 more than I usually get (and about 95 more than I got on DeviantArt, it's not a big fandom over there I guess) The Dragon Age reverse bang comes out in a week, I'm quite proud of my art and the story I've seen is lots of fun, but you'll have to wait for that :)

Two original pics I'm especially happy with:

Iron Man 3

In short: I liked it! Admittedly it helped that Iron Man 2 had set the bar so low, but there were a bunch of "woo!" scenes and hardly any "ugh" ones, and I don't remember ever being bored.

It is definitely a film about white men and specifically the Awesomeness of Tony, but Pepper and Rhodey get a few moments of awesome I quite enjoyed, and I actually liked Tony rather than wanting to slap him all film like in IM2. It would be nice if superhero films didn't reliably make me think "Oh no a disabled person this will end badly" (WHICH IT DID) but on the plus side it was way less racist than I was afraid of.

Anyway. Explosions, cute character moments, humour, robots, evil industrialists, and lots of SCIENCE. That's what wanted and that's what I got :)

This felt very underwritten, like they had an outline and filled in all the bits saying "Action sequence here" but missed 3/4 of the "character development here" and "joke here" bits. I was worried that the casting of Don Cheadle meant Rhodey wouldn't be funny any more but NOONE was so it didn't make much difference.

Also I think the writers missed the bit about Tony being to some extent a morally ambiguous prat you enjoy watching but don't entirely like, and the bit where the moral of the previous film wasn't actually "YAY CAPITALISM WOO GUNS".

Not spoiling anything not in the trailer:

On the plus side, Scarlett Johansen's character and Pepper spent the whole film being self confidently competent and kinda femslashy. I found myself liking the villain Victor (alas Sam Rockwell's character was irritatingly dull), possibly because he was the only person in the film who wasn't 100% in favour of the American military industrial complex (admittedly for not very deep reasons) and Mickey Rourke managed to exude such an intense aura of patient thuggish disdain he somewhat overcame the silliness of the film around him. Plus they were so squeamish about violence I'm not sure he actually ended up killing any totally innocent people (he gave it his best shot, mind you, he's not a nice guy). And he likes Australian native birds! :)

The one thing in the film that genuinely offended me was the physics. Just..what. No. Even by the standards of this sort of film. (nb many other things offended me too, bit I was expecting them more. Russian stereotypes ahoy!)

And now for spoileryness )
