Iron Man 3

In short: I liked it! Admittedly it helped that Iron Man 2 had set the bar so low, but there were a bunch of "woo!" scenes and hardly any "ugh" ones, and I don't remember ever being bored.

It is definitely a film about white men and specifically the Awesomeness of Tony, but Pepper and Rhodey get a few moments of awesome I quite enjoyed, and I actually liked Tony rather than wanting to slap him all film like in IM2. It would be nice if superhero films didn't reliably make me think "Oh no a disabled person this will end badly" (WHICH IT DID) but on the plus side it was way less racist than I was afraid of.

Anyway. Explosions, cute character moments, humour, robots, evil industrialists, and lots of SCIENCE. That's what wanted and that's what I got :)

I haven't seen it myself, but just heard about the spoiler re: the Mandarin, which made me feel a lot less leery about seeing it. (It just seemed like such a racist mess before.)

Oh huh, what's the spoiler? I'd mostly decided not to see it in theaters after hearing about the Mandarin, but I'm curious now because people have been saying it is not as bad as it could have been.

Without going into the full convolutions of the plot: he's actually an English actor called Trevor who's been hired by the (white, American) villain.

Hrmmm, interesting! Possibly I may actually see it in theaters if other people want to have a group outing instead of pointedly sitting it out.

Meanwhile the spoilers I've heard about Star Trek are having the opposite effect on me... :/

I rather liked that they stayed away from the typical 'oh, I'm a hero, I do lots of dangerous heroic things which almost kill me repeatedly, this doesn't screw with my head *at all*'
