Since I've enjoyed seeing these posts on my network. Adapting it to include tv and not be on Wednesdays.

What I'm currently reading:
"Ravishing the Heiress" by Sherry Thomas. It is sweet and charming, exactly as I was promised. The rich middle class heroine falls deeply in love with the poor aristocrat she's in an arranged marriage with, which is very inconvenient since while a sweet guy he's in love with someone else. They become good friends but...CAN THEY BE MORE?? (I am assuming yes)

I'm also still slowly working through Steampowered 2, a book of (os far pretty good!) lesbian steampunk short stories. I've found short stories are good to read while waiting for trains or in doctor's surgeries etc.

What I just finished reading:
"Tropical Fish" by Doreen Baingana. A book of connected short stories about three sisters growing up in Entebbe, Uganda. It was enjoyable and easy to read without being shallow, I didn't love it and it's not really my genre but there were some striking moments of character and observation and I'm glad I read it.

What I plan to read next:
The Death Note manga, since I got lent it.

What I'm currently watching:
I just finished Planetes disc 3 and Farscape Season 3 episode 1. I've realised the reason I was stuck on both shows, despite enjoying them, is that they're not thrilling/engaging enough to keep me hooked when things get scary, so my anxiety kicks in and I press pause and never get back to them. So I've decided to look up episode summaries whenever that happens, that way I know what bad things are coming (or not, since tense scenes end happily 90% of the time) Also I'm using the dub of Planetes since subtitles require too much concentration. This has vastly enhanced my enjoyment, I can have them on in the background while doing other things and enjoy the parts I like without getting all wound up and irritated.

Get a free copy of "Dragon Age: The Silent Grove" Issue #1 It's actually a pretty good comic.

Farscape watch it/skip it guide I just finished Season 2 and agree with pretty much everything they have to say about those two seasons. Which bodes well for season 3! Overall enjoying it, though it's kind of dated and dodgy in parts. Also BLINDINGLY white, not even the one token black guy you get in crappy US shows. There's something refreshingly different about it though, at least when it's good.

Guide to Homestuck fandom Very useful hints for those who have trouble with the coloured text/flashing images etc. I've linked to a comment thread pointing out that it's a bit condescending.

Maximising war assets in Mass Effect 3 The decisions you have to make in all 3 games to optimise the result at the end. Very useful as I replay from the start (which is still lots of fun. I am doing all the sidequests, partly to avoid Virmire. I do like the sense of a huge varied universe that you get from driving around all these planets on the mako, even if it was frustrating when I just wanted to know what was going to happen next)

Why I Hope Dragon Age 3 Is A Lot Like Dragon Age 2 I thought this article was pretty good.

First, a random adorable picture of Ken Watanabe with a horse and dog I found while vaguely pondering fanart.

Anyway: Am watching the Farscape episode "A Human Reaction".
Not very deep spoilery thoughts )

So, I was feeling bored this evening and after thinking for a while I decided that what I felt like doing was watching Farscape. I've been meaning to dig up the dvds from someone for a while(*), but having failed to do so yet I'm using Youtube, which while unsatisfactory in the long term has let me confirm that I do find it watchable.

Now the reason I've never watched much of the show is I got sick of the crappy episodic Star Trek knockoffiness midway through season 1, but I've heard it improves. So, do people have recs for the best way to watch it to minimise cruft without missing important bits of plot etc? ("Skip most of season 1 but you need to watch all of season 2" etc) Cam's watched it so I can ask him but he's out and it's always good to have a variety of opinions.

It's funny watching it again for the first time (apart from odd bits here and there, and vids) since 1999. At the time I was at pretty much my lowest tolerance for tv sf, much to [livejournal.com profile] distantcam's dismay. Of course, back then it didn't look so dated!

I remember deliberately not letting myself fall in fangirly love with Aeryn since I was sure they'd just screw her up. It is nice to know this time around that from what I've heard they don't ^_^

(*)Yes, since from before I started playing "Dragon Age" and realised Claudia Black was Morrigan's voice actress, I'm not quite that sad a fangirl. It did help though.
