And so it begins!

Well! We have registered and picked up our bags etc (on the ground floor, for anyone else who gets confused by the Calculated Risk Rationalisation or whatever conference happening at the door connecting to the Hilton) and are waiting for the Worldcon opening ceremony which is at two. Picking up our badges saved exactly zero time since we got confused and waited in the "people who have pregistered but not picked up their badges" line anyway (which was a whole one person long for our end of the alphabet) Said hello to some people, and even though I'm resting in my room same as I have been for most afternoons lately it's cool to know that the con is there, waiting.

The scooter has been very useful in some contexts, especially any long dull travel in a straight line or when I'm backtracking a lot because I'm lost or standing about a lot (it was thus great for registering). Not suited to an umbrella and no gloves in the rain though, brr. Also, well, I'm not very good at it. I am quite embarrassingly bad at using reverse to do three point turns etc.

Yesterday I managed to TOTALLY screw up organising to meet people and yet it ended up going about as well as it possibly could. I got to meet nixwilliams which was great. We chatted for a bit and then he tagged along in the rain while I picked up my badge (much drama, since the power was out, for no real benefit) and pick up some carrots from the Spencer St IGA (they had five, two of which were off :/) And I didn't run over his feet with the scooter once!

And now a rough order of events as I remember them:

I post to say people should visit on Wednesday.

rb, aka Ricky Buchanan, emails me from a "Ricky" email address to ask about my hotel and if it's accessible for her wheelchair, but warns me that her severe CFS/ME means she may not be able to make it. We swap phone numbers.

rb posts to say her computer is broken.

nixwilliams emails me to organise meeting on Wednesday from a "nixwilliam's surname" email address. Despite the fact that his surname is nothing like Buchanan and he talked about walking a long way to get there and he signed the email I somehow decide he is rb. We decide on 10:30am.

I discover that I "have" to go out on Wednesday to pick up my badge etc.

On Wednesday rb calls to say she can't make it.

I decide I may as well go out to pick up my badge, and just as I am leaving the hotel bump into nixwilliams, who is understandably surprised at my extreme astonishment at seeing him there. I explain the situation and he says "I did wonder why you reassured me that the hotel was wheelchair accessible.." :D

Sadly I was too sleepy to have any other visitors, apart from kitsune_iii who popped in very briefly after bumping into Cam. (Paradoxically, the fact that I see her more often meant I was ok with her visiting since I knew I'd be comfortable kicking her out after a short time so I could rest) Apologies to all the people who wanted to visit but I didn't get to see for one reason or another :(

Lol! This explains your bizarre lack of telling me if the hotel was accessible or not, which seemed most unlike you! I'm glad it worked out ok in the end. I got to Worldcon for exactly four hours yesterday and am still trashed mightily after resting all of today .... Overestimations of health and abilities continues as usual! It was totally worth it though, and I am very glad that I went :)

Actually I am pretty absent minded, but yes, in this case it wasn't forgetting completely it was just telling the wrong person :)
