About Neil Gaiman
Jul. 14th, 2024 08:38 amNothing new if you've been hearing about it already.
CW: Abuse, rape
I feel like the accusations against Neil Gaiman are serious enough that everyone should know about them, but am not really up for a full proper post myself. So here's some links:
It's worth emphasising is that he is a current and continuing danger to all vulnerable women in his vicinity. It's not just that he did bad things in the past, this is an ongoing pattern, and he has not even made a vague pretence of admitting fault and promising to do better. Even by his own admission he hit on and got naked with a much younger, vulnerable employee within hours of meeting her, and that is enough to make him an unsafe employer.
So it is important to keep talking about it while he remains in a position of power, as an author, celebrity, showrunner etc. Even if noone else in a position of power does anything to mitigate the damage, at least this way women in his vicinity will have some warning.
I'm going to turn off comments since while I generally trust the people likely to read this, even reasonable comments on the subject of rape can hit me badly if I happen to read them at the wrong time. I'm having to write this pretty quickly without much proofreading, apologies for any mistakes etc.

- A general summary
- The podcast that broke the news
- Transcripts of the first three episodes I read the transcript of the first episode and it was horribly reminiscent of my serial rapist's playbook, and I had to stop.
- A conversation on tumblr about some of the frustrating aspects of how people talk about these kinds of situations
