Heaven's Vault: Advice for new players
Mar. 11th, 2021 09:47 amMy review.
No spoilers in this post, just a few things I wish I'd known going in.
As I said in the other post, I strongly recommend buying it on Windows or Linux so you can manually create your own save files at major choices. I've only played it twice but have seen lots of little side-plots that would otherwise have required like 5 replays to see.
Creating save files: (I saw a guide to this somewhere but have lost the link)
Go to the save folder
Copy and paste the current save file "heavensVaultSave.json"
Rename it to something helpful like "heavensVaultSave- On Maersi.json"
To load one of these files, copy it and use the copy to replace "heavensVaultSave.json"
There's also a script to create saves automatically on Windows but I haven't tried it.
Other advice:
Don't trust your robot co-pilot's route advice, it's painfully buggy.
Remember to check your "solvable inscriptions" every now and then, it's an easy way to gain and verify new words.
The basic game arc is easy and there's no objective 'best' choices, so there's no overall walkthrough beyond "explore, talk to people, and collect information as much as you can be bothered, visit new locations as they unlock, and make the choices you find interesting".
I recommend playing through the first time unspoiled, then replaying with an achievements walkthrough to find interesting narrative moments you missed the first time.
There's two achievements I couldn't get to fire, and some were more fiddly than it was worth, but "Face to Face" gives some very important extra information, and "The Old Sea" and "A Voice from Stone" are easy to get cool moments.

Date: 2021-03-12 03:48 am (UTC)I'm glad! I spent a long while unsure about buying it myself, which is one reason I went into so much detail.
