They just added the ability to visit other people's islands if you lie down in a bed in your house, the other person doesn't have to be online/a friend etc, you just need the code.
Mine is DA-7321-0243-2801 (not sure if it'll change when I update my 'dream')
Come check out what I did with all the stuff youse gave me!
You don't interact with any real people, I can see this being good for those who are shy or keep odd hours. The downside is you can't get items/recipes etc the way you can on a 'real' visit, though you can download any designs they've uploaded.
I briefly wandered aroundflamebyrd's island, it was a little frustrating not being able to catch butterflies etc but interestingly surreal having villagers I spoke to know it was a dream (except Orville in the airport, who decided I must have swum there, and Blathers, who didn't notice anything was off at all)
I was tired so didn't stay long, but afaict may have been able to speak to a NPC version offlamebyrd?? That would be WEIRD.

The NPC version of the island owner will just say their Passport "comment", so make sure yours is something you want to say (mine was just "Greetings!" when I saved my island, but I'm trying to think of something good for next time).
If the person you're visiting has published any custom designs to the internet, there'll be a portal in the plaza you can use to download them. I haven't published any yet so my island doesn't have one.

But it is not ~10:20 either where they are or where we are. WHICH MEANS that you could make a dream that, through time-shifting, makes it easier for others to watch the alien broadcast on the TV that airs at 3:33am on a ... Saturday? morning!

Cool to see the snow -- you can make ice sculptures?! Is that a bear in the southwest? The sound of feet crunching in the snow is fun.
Bangle's fun and I like "growf". :-)
I like what you did with the walls and ramp with the northern shore! Feels majestic.
If you have a spare pinball machine (which I think you do? is that one in the Free area?), would you be interested in sending it to us? I can do the faffing about with friend code and so on....

Yeah, you get a whole series of icy recipes during winter. Getting the recipes is unfortunately kind of a pain, but since I have the bear statue recipe already, would you like one?
And yeah, I'll send you a pinball machine!
