MY THRILLING ESCAPE FROM TRIAL
Jan. 4th, 2020 03:29 pmI spent yesterday getting out of jury duty and hoo boy...how I feel today sure is proof that I am way too sick for Jury Duty.
I was worried I would get a lot of pushback and doubt but everyone I saw believed me immediately. It probably helped that by the end of this process I Did Not Look Well.
It thus SHOULDN'T have been a big deal but my doctor was an INCOMPETENT DUMBASS who wrote the wrong thing and said I should hand it in in person. So despite already being tired from going to the doctor, I got Cam to drive me go the sherriff's office (way less cowboy than it sounds).
This isn't my usual doctor, he was just the first I could see because I wanted to make sure I got this all dealt with quickly. He's apparently tried and failed to get out of jury duty himself, and I wondered if this was a good sign (knows the system!) or bad (proven unable to navigate the system!) and at this point I am voting for box number 2.
The very nice woman at the first desk I went to pointed out I had GONE TO THE WRONG BUILDING (100% my own fault) so I had to cross the road AGAIN. The very nice woman at the CORRECT desk (which was through some metal detectors where I had to take off my shoes) sadly pointed out that the form very clearly says I need a medical certificate, and while the note the doctor wrote on my statutory declaration made it clear he believes I am sick, it's not legally binding. Also she didn't understand why I hadn't just emailed/faxed/mailed it.
Since I'd just seen the doctor I rang up there and then, and with nice woman #2's help got him to fax her a medical certificate saying very clearly that I am permanently disabled, which is what they needed (in addition to the statutory declaration signed by me, which I got sent with the summons). She said she'd ring me if there were any more issues, and she didn't, so HOPEFULLY that's the end of that.
I woke up at 1am with cold symptoms which was NOT A GOOD SIGN but today am just exhausted so I think that was just my immune system fucking with me out of spite. I also have my period starting which makes me feel extra bad, and I'm having a bunch of depression about *gestures generally at everything*. SO TODAY IS A FLOPPY DAY. *flops*

Date: 2020-01-04 01:11 pm (UTC)It sounds exhausting and horrible, and I really hope it's all over now. Also the process to get out of it when you're sick sounds...ridiculous? That you have to actually go down? I'm just... anyway, what a dumb system, and I hope you can catch up on all the rest and that the post-exhaustion is navigable. But also boo for period + depression + life stuff.
Sending you lots and lots of hugs.
(Man I hope that doctor gets it right in the future). D:
