Lazy Guide to Playing XOXO Droplets
Sep. 23rd, 2019 10:08 pmSo! Here's the complete guide to the game as written by the developer. It has all the relevant information but I found it very overwhelming. This guide is simpler, but has very specific goals: romance one of the main love interests and see all of his content, and also see all the content for two side characters. It works for the free or paid version, but has mainly been used for the paid one.
There's also several more minor love interests in the paid version, and a friendship ending, which I have a reasonably efficient method for at the end.
There's no major plot spoilers, but some unavoidable "things that can happen" spoilers.
First off: A disclaimer! I am probably wrong about some stuff in this. Apologies in advance.
So! Like all dating sims, XOXO Droplets has pursuable love interests, and the main goal is to win over one of these guys and see all the scenes involving him.
But there's also secondary/side characters with cute conversations, and these can be a little fiddly to see if you're not methodical about it.
Also, there's a bunch of cliques at the school you can gain or lose reputation with, which affects various things. These cliques are made up of individual NPCs who I completely ignore because there's like 50 of them and that is way too much for my poor brain to keep track of. Just worry about the cliques overall and it works out fine.
It also has cheat codes. I don't use those for the main method here but they're very useful on replays.
Choosing Characters
As soon as you can, pick the following characters:
Free version:
1) A main love interest you want to romance out of Shiloh, Nate or Everett.
Paid version:
1) A main love interest you want to romance out of Shiloh, Nate, Everett, Bae, Jeremy or Pran.
2) A school based side character whose conversations you want to see out of Lynn, Alicia or Missy.
3) A shop based side character whose conversations you want to see out of Cala, Kam, Adrian, Romeo, or Trent. Note that Kam and Adrian are potential love interests, so you might want to save them for their own playthroughs.
Seeing the first two conversations for any side character unlocks a date location, and being consistent means you get to see all 7 conversations instead of seeing the same initial conversations for everyone over and over.
Goals
The main way you see a love interest is on dates, and some date locations are unlocked via gaining clique reputation, or talking to side characters.
Goals for every playthrough and version:
• Gain points with chosen love interest, and go on all possible dates.
• Keep all clique reputations above 0, to avoid a Game Over.
• See all messaging conversations (5 in free version, 10 in paid version)
• Become Prom Queen (optional)
Goals you only have to achieve once ever:
• Gain reputation with all the cliques to at least 200 each, since this unlocks date locations.
• See Kam and Adrian's first two side conversations, since this unlocks date locations (Game Center and Zoo respectively).
Goals for every Paid version playthrough:
• See all 5 work conversations with love interest.
• See all 7 conversations with each side character. The first two unlock another date location (Indoor Pool).
You can fit in more side characters per playthrough if you organise things right, but I like spreading them out.
First off: click "Auto", the round arrow on the top right next to the text box. Now you don't have to click as much!
Weekdays:
Monday: Sit with your LI once for a little scene. When picking where to sit at lunch, all that really matters to the cliques is what area you sit in, not which person you sit with. If you're especially low with a clique, sit in the area that gets you points with them, otherwise just sit with your side character if it's Missy or Alicia.
Nurse Lynn is a special case: most of the time he kicks you out so you have to go sit with someone else, probably your LI. But every five visits you unlock a conversation and can stay.
Wednesday: When you get to pick cliques to hang out with, check Missy's portrait to see which 3 you have the lowest points with. (Missy is the girl with white hair on the bottom right)
When a random encounter happens with some non-name student, pick the middle option. This will average out over time. If you randomly encounter your LI, talk to them. Ignore any other LIs.
Events/actual scripted scenes: the choices here are purely for fun so do whatever you want!
Weekends:
Wear any new accessories to see a conversation when you show up at school, or just tweak your outfit to look cool.
Equip bookstore items to raise clique reputation. I like to buy a whole bunch of one item, set it to weekly equip, and forget about it for a while.
On Saturday, open up the "call" menu in the phone and click your LI's name:
• if you haven't started dating, see if the "Right to Date" option is available. If so, click it.
• if you've started dating, see if you have enough points to go on a date. If so, pick one.
• if you've started dating and have hit two heart bars, a little couple icon will appear in the bottom right of the date menu. Click it to make him your boyfriend!
If you want to see how your overall progress is going, call Alicia. One heart bar = right to date. Two heart bars = boyfriend. Three heart bars = maxed out points.
If you have less than 7 petals of energy (in the top right corner of the screen), sleep. The alternative is to equip an energy drink.
Otherwise, message your LI. This is the quickest way to gain points afaict.
On Sunday, if you're not on a date or sleeping, either work (to earn money and see work conversations) or go to the shops.
Work:
Work at the accessory store and hobby store at least once to unlock them.
If you have the free version and are considering buying the paid version, avoid working with your LI more than once, since it means the game will think you've seen their work conversations and you won't be able to unlock them later. Instead, cycle through everyone else to keep your reputation balanced. Otherwise, just work with your LI.
Do a bunch of work at the start of the game while "New Student Mode" is on, since you don't lose reputation points.
Note which clique you lost points with and make up for it during the week and/or with bookstore items.
Shops:
You can visit three shops per visit. You need to visit a shop four times to activate the shopkeeper's conversation, and if you choose the conversation the whole shop visit ends.
Department store/Trent: Sells energy drinks and gifts which boost reputation with individual NPCs. I don't use these.
Psychic/Cala: Changes likelihood of seeing various people/cliques. I don't use this.
Accessory store/Adrian: Purely cosmetic. Buy one accessory that your LI likes (Shiloh=hat, Pran = earmuffs, Bae = hairclips, Everett = hair ribbon, Kam = necklace, tiara, Nate=earrings, Adrian = scarf, Jeremy = flowers) and wear it to school to see a cute conversation.
Arcade/Kam: Buy/win tickets to get useful stuff. I hate the minigame so just buy the tickets but ymmv. The only unique item is Swifty Taffy, which is useful for skipping weekday stats grinding when you get bored of it.
Bookstore: Items which increase reputation with specific cliques. I like to buy 5-10 of one type each visit.
So! Visit the bookstore if you need to, visit Kam and Adrian if you haven't seen their first two conversations each, and finally visit your side character's shop. (You can only pick 3 of those per visit)
When your goals are complete
Love Interest/Dates: You'll know you've seen all the dates in the paid version when your LI gets to 3 heart bars and their points stay at zero. Stop messaging them or otherwise trying to gain points.
Messages: You know you've seen all message conversations when you stop getting a conversation every 5 messages. Keep sending messages anyway, for the points.
Clique Reputation: I'm not sure what the cutoff is for Prom Queen, but I achieved it with this method, with about 2400 reputation total and no clique below about 320. If you don't want to be prom queen because it feels out of character, once you've gotten all the cliques to 200, weekly equip a big pile of Swifty Taffy from the Arcade to stop gaining any more reputation.
Work conversations: You'll know you've seen all 5 when you stop getting a conversation every 5 work visits. I think this is when your pay goes up to $60. Stop working unless you run out of money.
Side character conversations: You'll know you've run out of conversations when you talk to them 5+ times in a row and nothing happens. At school, sit with your LI instead. Don't bother going to the shops any more unless you need something.
Once you're done with all of these, equip a pile of swifty taffy and sleep through your weekends to the end of the game!
When you're dating any guy, make a save at the point where you have the chance to dump him. After you've seen his romance ending, go back to that save and dump him. You'll see a little breakup scene, and then get an ending where MC is single.
Which is to say: Lukas, Kam, Adrian, all the confession endings, and the friendship ending.
These are all set up simultaneously. You could get them without cheat codes and save scumming but it would be a pain in the ass for little reward.
Setup
Use cheats to get a big pile of money (I don't remember how much you need, sorry, but you can always get more), reputation with the cliques, and about 120 Swift Taffy.
Set the swift taffy to weekly equip.
Every weekend go out and visit Kam and Adrian's shops, talking to them when the option becomes available, until you've seen all 8 side conversations for both of them.
On October 11 Year 1 you'll get invited to a party. Go to it, and meet Lucas. He'll keep showing up every now and then from this point on. At some point you get the choice to end the path, don't take it.
Once you're sure you've seen all 8 side conversations for both Kam and Adrian (because you see them 5 times in a row and nothing new happens), buy 100 tickets from the arcade and 8 accessories from the accessory store and then do not talk to either of them again. Talking to them will activate their relationship.
In September year 2 you'll get the choice to date Lucas or be friends. Make a save! I'll call this SAVE ONE.
Lucas Path
From SAVE ONE, say yes to dating him. There's no more choices, so just enjoy the path!
Setup Part 2
Load SAVE ONE. Say you just want to be friends with Lucas.
Sleep through the weekends until May year 2. Make a save, which I'll call SAVE TWO.
Adrian or Kam Path
Open SAVE TWO. Go to the relevant guy's shop and talk to him. You should now be dating!
Every weekend day, open the guy list (the couple symbol) and go out with him. There are three scenes to see.
Once you run out of scenes, just sleep through all your weekends until the end of the game.
Confession endings
Load SAVE TWO. Cheat in two lots of 500 points for each main guy, making sure they're all at 1200 points.
Sleep through your weekends until July 18 Year 2. You should get the option to either see Pran as a buddy, or regret not dating him. Make a save. I'll call this SAVE THREE.
For each guy, load up SAVE THREE and say every other guy is a buddy, but that MC wishes she'd asked out the guy whose ending you want to see.
Be careful skipping through the final scene, a few of them have one or two new lines near the end and I didn't catch them before the game ended ;_;
Friendship Ending
Load SAVE TWO. Don't pick any of the guys.
There's also several more minor love interests in the paid version, and a friendship ending, which I have a reasonably efficient method for at the end.
