Thank you to everyone who said nice things on my flower-crown post, my brain is refusing to come up with replies to comments (as is often the case with personal posts for some reason) but they were all much appreciated :)
Now, since you've all just seen what I look like: I'm trying to decide what to do with my hair, and would appreciate advice!
I'm adequately happy with my haircut, which is a fairly boring masculine "longish at the front, short at the back". It never looks great, but averages out the best: my hair see-saws between flat grease and frizzy fluff, and I tend not to get it cut for months at a time. If I cut the sides short, they fluff out, while the top either flops down flat (making me look like Pennywise) or sticks straight up (making me look like Vegeta). And if I get the front cut longer it looks nicer for a few weeks, but then grows out badly and also makes me read as very feminine.
Here's my current haircut, with a gap of 4 months. It started out about finger-length at the front.

So! Do people have suggestions for a better haircut that fulfills my criteria: Not super short on the sides, can handle growing out, won't look feminine? (I mean it about the short sides, hairdressers and other non binary people keep thinking they would look good shaved, but trust me, they Do Not) Styling products are not an option.
And more importantly: What do you think would look good colour wise, that will still look good with several months of growth and no maintenance?
I've been pondering highlights tinted some colour, blue or purple maybe? They'd look a bit dorky grown out but in an interesting way, maybe?
Also my hair is dark enough that any colour needs major bleaching, which tends to irritate my scalp. Highlights just dye the hair.
The last time I tried dying my hair it was down to my shoulders. Purple-black looked ok, as did chestnut highlights. I like the idea of oil slick hair a lot, but am not sure my hairdresser would be up for it, and would rather not have to travel far.

Date: 2019-09-17 11:30 am (UTC)As for hair I'm not sure what to suggest. Only that it would be nice if I could keep touching it sometimes dsakjfsad- I have really liked your hair in all of its incarnations so I am REALLY BIASED which probably makes me not very good to make a choice! I'm going to love it anyway. x.x
(Re colours though, I think chestnut or any sort of reddish, as well as purple-black or even reddish-black. Esp because if you're keeping your base colour and it fades, it won't turn orangey like if you bleach and then go reddish. But I will like all of it except green does not fade well).

This doesn't help with the choice but is still helpful <3
Good point about the green. Hmm. ponders how an oil slick would look once faded
