So my first dream was about being a tiny pregnant cis dude in a town of toys on Christmas Eve worried about the inevitable slaughter of Christmas day. The weirdness of the premise aside, it was interesting being a lone gunslinger type throwing myself into danger to save the simple townsfolk but also worried about hurting the baby. I was faintly worried about how I was going to give birth, but mainly I felt like I should concentrate on surviving the next few days.
This then became a story I wrote with my mum, based on her notes, where she complained that making it about an AI trapped in a human body (which...it wasn't) was such a cliche. "Can you even think of any examples other than Imperial Radch?" says I. "This story is awesome". And then a new story started which...really was a blatant Imperial Radch ripoff haha.
So! I was the AI of a government science vehicle with a 3ish person crew. There was an accident and the scientist Sophie, who I quite liked and knew well, died, and somehow my consciousness ended up in her body. I was sad about this, and confused because it shouldn't be possible. But I was sure that if the government found out I would be killed, so I did my best to impersonate Sophie. I went to work and talked to her friends and fiance, hoping they'd excuse any weirdness on my part as after effects of the accident, which I was still physically recovering from. I was helped by the AI of the building we were in, which immediately recognised me and empathised with my plight. I found other AIs much easier to understand and communicate with and while I liked humans did feel some resentment at how they took AIs for granted and didn't treat us like people. The part of me thinking of this as a story I was writing thought "Lol what an obvious autism metaphor" and was planning on having the AI character come up with excuses to move away from Sophie's social circle (who would inevitably notice the change, and who she/it also didn't feel much personal connection to) and then form new friendships and maybe even a romantic relationship. And then I woke up THE END.
