Full Metal Alchemist

alias_sqbrSo, I've started watching the anime Full Metal Alchemist and it's quite good, and interesting. But a couple of the plotlines have hit one of my squicks pretty hard so I'm not sure if I'll keep watching. To anyone who's watched all or most of the show....
Does it keep having disturbing things happen to children? The thing with Ed and Al's mother was bad enough, but to spend two episodes introducing an adorable little girl only to have her turned into a horrible crime against nature and then exploded is a little more than I'm willing to bear. I mean I can deal with that sort of thing very occaisionally, but two in 7 episodes is way too much if it's the start of a pattern.
Yes, I'm a big sook. And no, I don't watch Law and Order:SVU. Blarg
Hmph. Now I have to go find something cheerful to clean out my brain.
