So Homestuck is over????
Apr. 13th, 2016 01:28 pmFor anyone who's missed it, Homestuck is a very strange, very long multimedia webcomic. If you have read part of it and are curious to see how it ends you could just watch the final animation, you'd be confused but...you were going to be confused anyway ;) And it's very pretty!
Of course I do not put it past Hussie to come out with a second ending/epilogue in a bit, that would totally be his style.
**SPOILERS**
So like a lot of people, somewhere along the way I stopped being so invested, with all the long pauses, things getting so unpleasant just before the reset and a lot of the previous plot being erased afterwards. And it wouldn't be Homestuck if I wasn't left feeling a bit annoyed.
I think the thing I'm most annoyed about over this final batch of updates is Vriska's character arc just...not being a thing any more at all, since all the other balls that got dropped were things I knew Hussie didn't really care about and had resigned myself to being forgotten once I knew how little time was left (Poor Tavros for example).
But it was still a pretty, sweet, and somewhat satisfying ending, and I still feel fondness for the comic as a whole. I'm really glad PM and WV got some closure and a happy ending, I wasn't sure they would. And I'm glad he left the final fate of the characters he didn't care about ambiguous instead of just killing them all off, and left shipping ambiguous instead of shoehorning in EndGame Ship Moments(*) since he is really not good at romance and the core of the story is about friendship. Especially cos I am imagining all the people who thought endgame ships had MAJOR SYMBOLIC MEANING are going to be annoyed :D And Vriska going off to defeat Lord English does mean Terezi is free of her and Gamzee and can maybe make a happier life for herself without their influence, also she isn't dead!
I suspect as I have time to digest things I am going to have more and more "But wait what about..." moments. Someone I follow pointed out we never find out exactly what happens to Aradia but SHE IS FINE. EDIT: Wait what happened to literally any of the sprites o.O (It begins)
Am very happy my icon is so appropriate :D
(*)EDIT: except, as has been pointed out, Rose/Kanaya, and THE F/F COUPLE DIDN'T DIE :D

Date: 2016-04-13 07:29 am (UTC)I'm really curious to see how it would be like to read it all in one gulp. So much of my experience was Hussie toying with updates and such; you can even see readers who experienced in real time vs those who archive binged a particular plotline have completely different reactions. Will Murderstuck be quite as scary now? and etc.
Especially cos I am imagining all the people who thought endgame ships had MAJOR SYMBOLIC MEANING are going to be annoyed
I am also cackling at this. nnnnope.
AND CAN TOWN MAYOR IS FINALLY REAL :DDDDD

Date: 2016-04-18 08:55 am (UTC)Your feelings are pretty much exactly my feelings :)
Every now and I come across people going "It all went downhill when the trolls arrived" or "I started reading in Act 6 and that's when I think it got really good" etc and am reminded how much difference it makes when you started. Rereading it knowing where it ends up, and which plot threads wil/won't be followed up on will be quite different again, I think.

Date: 2016-04-18 08:48 am (UTC)I'm glad you were still able to enjoy the ending. I think I will reread it at some point once I've got some distance, I imagine it will be both interesting and frustrating, since any given plot thread has about even odds of going somewhere unexpectedly awesome or being unexpectedly dropped.

Date: 2016-04-22 02:57 pm (UTC)Yeah, I like most of the individual threads, I even find Caliborn moderately interesting, but I still got frequently frustrated when a plot thread I was interested in was dropped in order for something I was less invested in to be picked up, especially because there was no way to know when or even if it would return.
