All About Niamh
Dec. 4th, 2014 01:58 pmMy new Inquisitor! She was designed to be fun to play and she is :D
As I said on tumblr:
I designed her to side with the templars for variety, which ended up working pretty well: she has a chip on her shoulder about Dalish mages, partly because they never allow non-mages like her any power (I think?) and partly, I have decided, because she had a brush with a Keeper-turned-abomination.
And then she got to DISBAND THE TEMPLARS AND MAKE THEM HER VASSALS :D :D Which had the added benefit of making Solas happy, romancing him has been a delicate balance since while Niamh is suitably pro-elf and interested in elf history she is also very dubious about all these spirit/Fade shenanigans. She trusts Solas to know what he's doing more than your average random mage though.
Overall she has complicated feelings about the Dalish vs city elf divide. While she respects the right for some elves to live as Dalish for herself she'd prefer an elvish community with their own supportive and distinct culture which was less rigid and obsessed with the past without being forced to assimilate with humans and Andrastianism. She is SO going to be drinking from the well of sorrows :D When the envy demon showed evil!Niamh as a despot she was...not as offended as the demon expected her to be. (She doesn't plan on being an actual despot, but she's not without some despotic tendencies, and she doesn't feel bad about it)
Watching Blackwall and Solas a second time through has been really interesting. Solas is still annoyingly smug but more interesting, Blackwall is weirder when you realise that all the stuff he says about the Grey Wardens being great is as a self hating wannabe Grey Warden fanboy stuck on the outside and making it up as he goes along. He doesn't like Niamh much nor she him, and he gets really self righteous and shirty about it, she is going to enjoy seeing him in prison.
Cullen is weirdly adorable, especially since Niamh is pretty pro templar and has a bit of a thing for humans. She is much more into Josie than Marijn was (I like the brusque warrior/polite diplomat contrast) but dammit I'm playing a female elf, I really should romance one of Cullen or Solas. I really liked Solas saying he liked her muscles :D Even if she is rendered twiglike in the game. Accidentally made out with Solas in Niamh's dreams last night, which was suitably weird, but I went back to a previous save because I don't want to trigger any of the romances until I'm sure I can stop and start.
Sera she just doesn't really see that way. Bull she likes more, but he doesn't flirt back much so she just assumes he's not really into her. Dorian and Cassandra are super attractive as always whyyyy.
I had to restrain her from denouncing Cole as a demon. Viviene she doesn't really like. Varric she is ambivalent about. I'm not entirely sure how she feels about Leliana, but she is happily pushing her into being more bloodthirsty. Given the choice she'd destroy the Chantry entirely but she'll likely go for Leliana as Divine given the other options. Hopefully all that WHY YES I AM THE HERALD and pro templar stuff won't leave Viv in charge Niamh would be kicking herself.
Going to meet Loghain soon, that should be fun! I find myself weirdly fond of the snarky lesbian douchebag Hawke in this game, even though she was constructed entirely in the Keep to create an interesting setting and given the default appearance so Niamh could keep her voice. She owes a lot to May, though, and I loooove May.
As I said on tumblr:
She is about 40 and was REALLY FRUSTRATED at the limitations on her life as a Dalish hunter. She says “why yes I AM chosen by Andraste” and “I don’t believe in your Maker, I follow the Dalish gods” whenever she gets the chance. Every time she gains more power over human-and-Andrastian centered groups like the Chantry she cackles. At first she was just enjoying being Herald as temporary human weirdness but increasingly her aim is to create a new power in Thedas which is as elf-and-non-Andrastian friendly as possible, with her as supreme leader. And so far it’s going pretty great.
She is stringing along Solas, Cullen, and Josephine, have to figure out if I can date and then dump some of them cos she would TOTALLY do that.
