My personal history with Isobelle Carmody
May be triggery(*): Anne Bishop does not CARE what you think
Don't get me wrong, both authors can be a lot of fun! But I would hate for anyone to start reading them before the con without knowing what they were in for.
*goes back to recuperating from post-con lurgy*
(*)For what you ask? For EVERYTHING. She's that kind of author.

Date: 2013-04-02 12:05 am (UTC)I did read the most recent two books in the Ober Chronicles (there's supposed to be one more to come? who knows), but I honestly feel that it wasn't just that I'd grown up and moved on, it was also that she'd grown past them a bit herself? Or past Elspeth's prickly socially difficult narrative voice and interpersonal relationships? They felt a bit lost.
Ober was my first online fandom, though (social forum-based rather than ficcish) so I'll always feel affectionate.

Date: 2013-04-03 08:19 pm (UTC)otoh, this made me think because i never see a "wow Carmody, top recs for awesome female fic authors!!" post without thinking similar thoughts. Especially thinking this is one area where i prefer fandom over canon, at least in fandom people have ettiquettes for flagging the eternal WIP and even offering them over to other fans to finish writing.
Then [plot twist!] i realize Game of Thrones has gone all HBO franchise, despite Martin taking foreeeeever to, so I dunno.
