Non-friend commenting off at lj

Sorry everyone, but I have been getting SO MUCH SPAM. You should definitely able to comment with OpenID at dreamwidth as long as you have an lj account, but I can't remember if I have anon commenting on.

It's annoying, I really want to be open to comments from a wide variety of people, but the spammers make that difficult :/

I've been getting a ton, too, all on old entries, since I haven't had comments open on LJ in a couple years. I've also been getting them on community posts and some old RPG accounts. XD It's all different users, but the same exact spam about having a crush on me.

I got three or four more today and finally just went and turned off comments on my LJ entirely. I hate how it hides all the old comments when you do that, but I do most of the entries backed up on DW, including comments, so...

I've been getting it too! I used to be all "yay" at getting any lj alert, but now it's just "meh, I bet it's another spambot declaring their love to me." It all used to be focused on one post, too, but now it's all over. WTF, lj?

I've just turned LJ commenting off completely, even for old entries. I was getting about 30 spam messages a day.

I still have a number of friends who comment there, and I'm pretty sure none of them are spammers so I should be ok :)

I changed all LJ entries before 2007 to be friends-only, since they seem to be targeting older entries. Then I had to go back and change the levels on my story posts (the ones I tagged properly, at least), since someone remarked they couldn't comment on any of my old stories.

I'm still getting spam, but it's now all just on comms that I used to run. Not sure whether I'll do something about that or not.

Yes, I had to change an old comm of mine to members only commenting. Not that anyone has commented in years but it's good to let people have the option :)
