The extended ME3 ending
Jun. 26th, 2012 10:42 pmI am SUPER SICK but I feel like babbling about it so this will be even more incoherent than my original 1am response.
Anyway: I watched the "control" ending on youtube (the one I chose) because I didn't feel up to waiting for it to download tomorrow then replaying the whole ending for 5 minute of extra footage that could plausibly break my heart.
And I thought it was ok! It is, exactly as advertised, a somewhat extended version of the same basic ending, though some stuff that happened really wasn't implied and if we were expected to guess it they really need to work on their storytelling.
They added extra questions you can ask and the person making the video DIDN'T ASK THEM. Also it was default dudeshep who looks very little like my Gina, so I'm totes playing her ending again at some point.
And I get the impression there's enough variety between the three (well, four, ish) endings that I feel more inspired to finish the game with another Shepard who'd make different choices. Hooray! I basically got everything I really wanted and thought was possible at this point.
SOMEBODY has seen Star Trek 2 one too many times, with all that the good of the Many versus the good of the One stuff. Plus the final shot of shiny tropical alien planet, sad crew members etc. Which means Mass Effect 5 should have time travel and whales!
Ok so I like the fact that Gina becomes a benevolent robot god swarm more than I possibly should. I may have to write fic about this. Her girlfriend is a tech nerd after all...OMG I can totally steal that scene of a Sam/EDI fic I started where Sam got all defensive at the idea of having a fetish for machines. Yessss.
Inspired by Reaper Shep:
Sam: Mum, Dad, I'd like you to meet my girlfriend.
Shepard: HELLO MR AND MRS TRAYNOR
Mrs Traynor *looks up to see reaper fleet overhead, tries not to die of a heart attack*: You're dating...the Reapers?
Sam: They're good now! Commander Shepard sacrificed herself to control them!
Shepard: YOUR PETTY HUMAN CONCEPTS OF GOOD AND EVIL MEAN NOTHING TO ME.
Sam: Well yes, darling, but you don't go around destroying whole planets any more now do you? That's certainly a step in the right direction.
Shepard: THIS IS TRUE. UNLESS THEY ARE VERY UGLY PLANETS.
Mr Traynor: Uh.
Shepard: THAT WAS A JOKE.
Shepard: I TRIED USING HUMOUR. IT DID NOT APPEAR TO APPEASE THEM.
EDI: Perhaps it is your delivery.
Joker: I'm not sure there's much you can do to make a massive swarm of killer robots seem appealing.
Sam: My parents are so narrow minded. I bet they'd like her more if she was a MALE swarm of killer robots.
Joker: On the plus side, a lot less people are accusing me and EDI's relationship of being an unholy abomination against all that is right and pure. We seem almost normal now!
Sam: Hmmph.
Krogan babies are adorably freakish looking.
