Summary: Before I watched "Avatar" I saw someone saying how much better it would be without the character of Jake Sully. Since the movie was VERY DULL I started imagining how much more awesome that would be and drew this comic when I got home.

Overall my opinion of the movie is that it was pretty (if sometimes garish)... and dumber than a box of rocks. And the "White guy casts off human/white guilt (and also disability) by becoming the bestest most special Native and leading them to victory and marrying the chief's feisty daughter" plot was exactly as terrible as I thought it would be. (You may ask: so why did you watch it? Because it was distantcam's birthday and he really wanted to see it. I did manage to turn my brain off and enjoy the film as cool 3D eyecandy a moderate amount of the time)

This plot wasn't just telegraphed in advance, it sent out press releases.

Yeah, I have never felt less spoilered for a film for which I read had read indepth story discussions. In fact I was glad to know in advance it wasn't going to go anywhere very interesting.

Finally, a review that is something other than praise.

I haven't seen the movie, not sure if I will pay money to see it in cinema. The first time I saw the preview I was like, "This story has been a told a billion times before, it's a cliche, and a crappy one at that."

James Cameron shoulda stuck with the Terminator franchise.

I'm pretty sure most reviews were "pretty...but stupid."

Mine was "pretty!" but I've since realised that I read the stupid bits as cues that the pretty bits were what I should be paying attention to. :)

I appreciated the advances in the physics engine, but recognised that there was a reason all the CGI'd things in the movie were non-real-world creatures and things.

Simply put, we don't have detailed enough biological CGI yet. Avatar's bioforms did not give the impression that if you zoomed in for an extreme closeup, you would see more and more individual detail, the way you would in the real world. It was in the uncanny valley of textures.

The mass rigging, though, was very nice. There's almost always a sense that there's some weight and inertia behind the pixels.

I saw it before the movie but without the context just found it confusing.

Having seen Avatar..huh. The original does sound much more interesting.
