My grandma is dead :( Unexpected reaction to the cement used around a pin in a routine hip operation, though obviously her general declining health is not coincidental.

You can tell where I get my non-hugginess from, I said to mum that I'd give her a hug if I was there and she pointed out that neither of us would enjoy it, so I should give agnostic prayers (grandma was agnostic too, mum isn't. I wonder if she'll have a religious funeral like dad did for his atheist father. Hmm)

And then we talked about how I was evil for introducing my sweet innocent (lol) 23 year old brother to True Blood, because we're not big on talking about our feelings in my family.

Speaking of which: no supportive comments! Links to cheerful things will be accepted but are not mandatory, this is the sort of slow burn sad that doesn't suit that sort of thing so much.

A link to a cheerful thing

that is a cute photo! I like it's blurry childhoodedness, like blurry childhood memories. It's cool.

Well, all right then: The most recent Waybacks concert on the live music archive. (http://www.archive.org/details/waybacks2009-08-29.mtx.flac16f) I humbly suggest starting with song 24, "Beyond the Northwest Passage," because it is awesome.

You have all my virtual internet cake and good thoughts.

"Unexpected reaction to the cement used around a pin in a routine hip operation,"

That's a good definition of unexpected, eep.

Cute blurry pic as you say...

If your brother was innocent til now a couple of episodes of True Blood will definitely sort him out!

Hope you do, too.

Sucks when people you love die. :(

I'm never sure about the funeral thing; like I personally have the stance that funerals are for the living, so hey whatever helps them grieve, but I guess there are probably at least religious standards about it that'd make it weird if the deceased is atheist/agnostic/not that religion. (If not like ethical things plus the general weirdness factor.)

I wouldn't have minded so much if the priest hadn't have been kind of a smug prat about it.

uuugh, fuck smug priests! >:(

And then there's the fact that if grandma was any religion it was jewish

OK, for some reason that bothers me. (The not-Jewish funeral part, not the being Jewish part.) Possibly the whole appropriation/whitewashing/whatever thing. Though I wonder if there's a way to make some kind of mixed ceremony, or if that would just muck up the whole thing. >_>

What about random comments?

Like, in regards to your icon, can I have a vegan cake with no artificial flavours which is chicken flavoured? Not that I'd want a meat flavoured cake, that would be odd.

Here's awesome: was the Empyrean software that was a partner of the Italian Film Festival [livejournal.com profile] distantcam's company or something? Because I remember him having roughly that same logo in about ... 1992 or something.

It's interesting you say slow burn sadness... I like that.. I think that is an absolutely perfect description that no one ever takes into account.

I have no awesome links, as facebook sucked my brain out and turned it into a rollercoaster, cafe running, aquarium, farm and desert island keeper. Heh.

I will offer commentary though. True Blood is fantastic. I've just finished watching the first two seasons. :) The only problem I had with it was that now I find I accidentally speak with a bad, bad southern drawl at odd times.. Especially when people mention Jesus. :)

Oh, and I can't get the opening credits out of my head. :P

Here is a piece of interactive art that made me think of you (and your grandmother, too). Perhaps it is something that you would find cheerful.
