Not-so-live blogging of Xfiles up to S2 E7
Aug. 3rd, 2009 03:32 pmI kept having thoughts about Xfiles S2 and decided I'd enjoy blogging them, dunno if anyone wants to read them but that's not what blogs are about :)
I think if I had been watching this live I'd be really pissed off at the way they're "writing Scully out of the show": the season starts with the Xfiles shut down and the pair separated, and the first 7 episodes have been Mulder solving stuff somewhat on his own. And then they introduce this new guy as a replacement. And now Scully is gone! Possibly never to return!!11!!
Luckily I know she comes back :) Also wikipedia explains this is all due to Gillian Anderson being pregnant, which is fair enough.
Overall I am really enjoying the show, it's not perfect but is pretty good and I love Scully. Non-objectified intelligent female scientist main characters ftw! I wrote a bit about season one in X-Files: Gender Bender and other thoughts at dw.
I was waiting for Krychek since I keep seeing his name in fic headers. I can see why there were such intense shipping flamewars.
He's like this big pretty(*) secretly evil puppy who pouts when Mulder ignores him to talk to Scully, and she's all "Lol new guy, whatever, he totally loves me best."
And then Mulder sees cigarettes in his car and KNOWS he must be evil. Seriously, that's his whole proof(**), a moral argument ahead of it's time in 1994 :)
As much as I might be shipping Mulder/Scully a bit, I like how the show doesn't feel the need to explicitely ship-tease (at this point, anyway), it lets the relationship and chemistry speak for itself and it's enjoyable just as a strong working relationship.
But the reason I'm typing this rather than watching is that episode seven (Three) is terrible.
Vampire: I am an evil vampire woman who kills people and sucks their blood. Note how I suck this guys blood in front of you, and the next morning he turns up dead.
Mulder: So what you're saying is, you're an innocent victim of the MEAN vampires, and need me to protect you.
Vampire: Uh..sure. Hey, why don't you take your top off and let me run this razor over your neck.
Mulder: Sounds good!
Me: OH GOD COME BACK SCULLY, MULDER NEEDS YOU
EDIT: Ah, there are two very similar looking women, one of whom is a vampire and one of whom is just into bloodplay and associated with the vampires. And now I can't tell which was who earlier in the episode, it was all very confusing.
(*)It's weird seeing him young and cute after seeing him older and grizzled in Kyle XY.
(**)Afaict at this point Mulder doesn't even know The Cigarette Smoking Man exists, so his argument really is "Krychek doesn't smoke, so let someone who wasn't him, and smokes, into his car. QED he's an evil spy"
