One day I will meet one of these doppelgangers and either go "She's nothing like me!" and be very insulted, or be totally freaked out by our similarity and we'll have to fight to the death. Date: 2006-09-22 02:37 pm (UTC)I know what a finite matrix group is, if it means what it sounds like it means. Beyond the definition of what one is, it means little to me.
As far as running goes, I think the PhD program is the proverbial frying pan. I'm told that getting some corporate job with a masters is easier, but I have confidence that I could manage to find it very hard and distressing. Who was it that said something like "those who think that math is difficult don't realize how complicated life is"?

The idea that 1,000,000 and 1,000,001 have nothing to do with each other at all, for example, drives my epsilon-loving head nuts - I just don't like factorizations, I guess. If I had a thing for finite groups, though, I could've stayed at my undergrad institution - University of Florida - and had a pretty good time. I would've missed out on Michigan beer, though, so it's for the best this way.
