I just finished watching the miniseries the Lost Room, after Cam bugging me to for months.

It was great, but is unfortunately one of those slow burn "What's going on?" understated stories which only really sounds interesting if you get spoilers. Here's a relatively spoiler free version, but it's cooler than it sounds: There are seemingly ordinary objects imbued with strange powers, and people who will do anything to get them. Detective Joe Miller (played well by Peter Krausse) finds himself in possession of a key (The Key), and from then on his life gets stranger and more difficult and he is sucked into the life of an Object hunter.

It has a bit of an old school Twilight Zone-esque simplicity to it. The characters and writing are engaging, but not very deep and sometimes fall into cliches (not so much that it seriously bugged me, apart from any POC character working in a shop. They were pretty much all dodgy) But yes, overall, very good.

Here's the first ten minutes on YouTube (all the trailers I could find were either spoilery or actively misinformed)
Spoilery thoughts:

A while ago I made a dvd of fanvids for [livejournal.com profile] lilysea. She thanked me but said she found the format (uneducational names like Bvid_26_large.avi organised in folders by how much I like them) meant it was like a packet of Berties Botts every flavour beans(*): a vid could be from any fandom, and turn out to be a humourous parody or a dark violent AU with incest manips or anything in between.

Yesterday I was making dvds of some stuff for [livejournal.com profile] tevriel and had a bunch of extra room so decided to fill it with vids (as is my wont) I decided she is probably not the sort to appreciate sudden unexpected depressing violence in her light entertainment, and that it was a good opportunity to make a folder of happy vids for future such occasions (when I just want to fill some space and the person hasn't asked for ALL my good vids).

I started chucking it together based on the feeling I got when I thought about the vid but decided I should double check the ones I couldn't remember clearly.

And, as lilysea would I'm sure agree, my lord I do like a lot of dark stuff. Even the "happy" vids I like tend to be "death and despair set to an ironically cheery tune" or "celebration of how awesome a character is through adversity *insert images of adversity*".

So tevriel, I did my best, but if some darkness got through I apologise but be aware that comparatively speaking it's still sweetness and light :) (Except the Supernatural vids folder, which is solid delicious angst)

See also the fact that my favourite genre of music is "break up songs".

(*)My metaphor not hers :)
