I've been pondering how to resolve how focused Jonathon and Mina are on each other, but also shipping Mina/Lucy, and also thinking about how the the whole thing with Lucy feels like a timeloop story or the bad ending of a "save the character" narrative game.

I think a straightforward retelling as a branching game where you play as Mina figuring out how to save Lucy could be fun. But here's another, odder option that popped into my head.

In case anyone is interested, here's the reaction posts I made when I read the first 17 chapters of Dracula a few years ago. It's in book order, covering events up to the 30th of September, so there's a LOT of spoilers.

And since a few people asked, a shorter, equally spoilery discussion of why I stopped reading:

Now that everyone's enjoying Dracula in real time via Dracula Daily I decided to look up other notable public domain epistolary novels and was reminded of Dangerous Liaisons. I checked and the letters are dated, starting in August. Alas I don't know if there's any public domain translations but it could be fun for French speakers!

Poking the ones in English they don't seem to be in the form of dated letters, which rather undermines the fun of it. But I know people have worked out a timeline for Pride and Prejudice.

I'm not subscribed to Dracula Daily myself, but I'm enjoying the discussion and might pick it up when it gets to the point where I stopped reading, maybe it'll help to have other people to commiserate with about [SPOILER]. I am hoping all this enthusiasm leads to fixit fic! Also poly shipfic and/or femslash!

I was getting too tense not knowing AT ALL what was going to happen next, and multiple people recced this to me as a good adaptation. I'm definitely going to keep reading the book since half the point is to research how to write 19th century gothic prose.

(and then I stopped watching before I got to anything very new, oops)

TIME FOR THE FEMSLASHY ADVENTURES OF LUCY AND MINA

(At least, I hope they're going to be femslashy, I know these two are a popular ship)

So I am reading and taking notes on this as research but it's pretty entertaining. I haven't read the book itself before, but several years ago read an eventually abandoned blog which was going through the various diary entries etc in chronological order.

Anyway, it's such an influential classic I thought other people might enjoy a light hearted summary, so here you are. We'll see how far I get!
