Masterlist and guide
And now, AT LAST...it is time for the canonically bigender Kaede/Sogo!!! Who I have heard is rather patchily written but I just can't not. (Here's a spoilery summary
waterscroll kindly made for me)
Teeny tiny post today just to celebrate ACTUALLY GETTING TO PLAY THIS ROUTE. I have tried three computers with three different operating systems, two different emulators, and two phones to even get the damn game running again, and then spent like a month replaying Saizo's path to be able to unlock this one. Which on the plus side meant I got to hear Saizo and Yukimura's voices a bunch which will help with my fic (my old emulator didn't do the voices).
BUT ENOUGH ABOUT THOSE DUMBASS CIS BOYS. IT'S TIME FOR KAEDE/SOGO.
There's no canon voice in the English language app, not even on the preview page, but
I found one on the Japanese site. They sound like a more cheery Saint-Germain from Code Realize, which is a little surreal, but I don't think it's actually the same voice actor.
I think for clarity and not to erase their identity I'll go for KS as a shortened form of Kaede/Sogo (as opposed to K/S which is Kirk/Spock ;))
Anyway. MC tells the village chief (KS's dad?), Byakkosai, that she's going meet up with KS and see what they've learned about Nobunaga before deciding the village's future.
Byakkosai: What good will that do?
MC: She is our negotiator and surveillance expert, and I am her right hand woman (also I'm anxious when she's not here >.>)
We flashback to MC and KS having a very shippy goodbye, both sad to part and worried for the other's safety.
I love when KS is all sugary fluff at MC then flips to being passive aggressively snippy at other people. They don't seem to like Byakkosai's underling Yagaro.
(also Byakkosai and Yagaro's sprites don't match the detailed art for the LIs or the simplistic style of the Radiance background characters, it's a bit disconcerting)
Man they are already SO SHIPPY. Lots of hugs and gentle hair touching. It's all VERY YURI.
And now I gotta wait til tomorrow for more!
Just changed my castle (what other players see when they 'visit' me) to show my MC with KS instead of Saizo, though it's still full of Saizo's crows because I am a big ol' goth. Anyway I am getting a massive kick out of just having a bigender LI in this game, my character being visibly in a queer relationship, and a multigender character being presented as a desirable love interest. All the other non-binary love interests I've seen in romance games have been vaguely masculine-leaning androgynous. Which is how I generally present irl for practical reasons but it's not who I am. Not that I'm bigender either, and I'm certainly not amab (or a ninja) but it still feels nice.

This sounds lovely. :D I think Kaede/Sogo was like this in all the event stories and bits of the Shadow route that I played; they have such a lovely dynamic with everyone.

The route took until Chapter 5 to be annoying about gender, we'll see how things go from here...
