Cracky She-ra Theory

We finished our rewatch! It was great! And then as I was pondering things I came to a single undeniable conclusion.
Double Trouble is the Princex Of The Crimson Waste.
NO WAIT LISTEN
The only people who do magic are sorcerers and princesses (and Madame Razz, but she's her own thing, like Tom Bombadil)
Sorcerers all seem to know similar spells to each other (which is never shapeshifting that we see), tend to know lots of spells, and their magic is like... glowing runes or creepy tendrils.
On the other hand, Princesses have a small number of unique abilities, which can be and look like seemingly anything. I forgot about Prince Peekeblue when I wrote my last post, but including him: princexes(*) don't have to be women, and do not necessarily rule a country.
Double Trouble is the only person we see shapeshift, and they never show the slightest sign of any other magic ability. Their shapeshifting is black with white sparkles, which looks nothing like light magic runes. It sort of looks like dark magic but doesn't seem to suck other people's magic in the same vampiric way. So they're not a sorcerer.
THUS. PRINCEX.
I'm pretty sure they never explain their backstory enough to know if they're from the Crimson Waste originally, so they could be Princex of anywhere, or nowhere. Entrapta is the only non-elemental princex we know has an associated country, maybe it's not universal.
But something I noticed on the rewatch is that Dryl is shown when they mention "the mountain colonies". Implying that the Etherian population is expanding into new areas, and Dryl is one of them.
So maybe 1000 years ago there was just the Elemental Princesses, one for each major country. The First Ones gave each one a runestone, to control and channel their power. And then over time new countries formed, and Etheria created new non-Elemental princesses, who didn't get runestones.
Afaict the Crimson Wastes were formed by Mara's ship crashing, and were initially uninhabited. But people drifted in over time.
And so now, Etheria has given them a princex.
The one flaw in this otherwise watertight theory is that Double Trouble is a complete asshole. I adore them, but a good-hearted saviour of the down-trodden they are not. Not even compared to Entrapta, who is the most morally dubious of the other princesses.
But if we take Entrapta as our guide: Double Trouble is certainly competent, and did a lot to help save the world, even if their motives weren't always great. Maybe they are the best choice for the job of being princex of the Crimson Wastes (Let's say Huntara's not in the running cos she wasn't born there) After all, we don't know what they'll be doing after canon. Or maybe princesses are random or something, and the ones we know just HAPPEN to all be good.
...ok, now that canon can't spoil my fun speculating, let's check the wiki...
And nothing seems to contradict my theory! The Princess page isn't very helpful, and uses the logic that since original Princess Alliance included Castaspella and Shadow Weaver, they're both princesses. But the rest of the wiki seems to disagree and I think that's being overly literal.
There's a mention of Double Trouble implying they know sorcery but also "Double Trouble is the only character with a power unique to themself that is not explicitly confirmed to be a Princess or practice magic.", so.
More importantly: they were at princess prom!
In conclusion: PRINCEX
Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
EDIT: Wait, I thought of another category of magic users! ALIENS. I have no idea HOW an alien would end up on Etheria before it left Despondos, and Double Trouble doesn't come across as old enough to have been hanging around the 1000 years before that. But just putting it out there as another possibility.
(*)prince(x/ss)s? princes/princesses/princexs? I might just stick with "princesses" since that's what canon does.

Date: 2020-08-16 10:56 pm (UTC)As for DT's assholeishness, Mermista is pretty asshole-y as well. Don't get it twisted, she's one of my top 5 characters of the show...but yeah.
But, also, what's Catra, then? She's not one of those fawn people...

Date: 2020-08-26 01:42 pm (UTC)I always assumed Catra was the same general kind of animal-ish person as Scorpia, Rogelio, Octavia etc. While we see a few communities of similar looking animal-ish people, like the moth-folk and deer-folk, there's lots who are only person who quite looks like them in the show. Which especially makes sense in the Horde, where biological relatives are split up. Like there might be other cat people in the Horde we just never see, maybe even biological relatives of Catra's.

Date: 2020-08-28 12:05 pm (UTC)I have totally forgotten that episode, but I saw some other people who remembered it speculating about something like that happening back when the show was still airing and it did make me want to know more about her background.
