Cut for discussion of animal pee.

This is a bit gross, but since I didn't know about them and have already passed on the knowledge to one other person: puppy pads/pee pads are like giant non-sticky sanitary napkins used on the ground where incontinent animals pee, and are very helpful when your cat regularly misses the kitty litter.

Before [personal profile] moonvoice told me about them I was using a deeply imperfect system of plastic bags and kitty litter covered in paper/cardboard. Now we just have a couple of puppy pads on the ground with some kitty litter in the middle, since Kira has trouble climbing into boxes and isn't actually going to pee in in the litter anyway (she has a bad back and gave up on sitting down) This is much easier for me to clean up and for her to walk on with shaky feet.

It's not great for the environment but neither are piles of plastic bags/litter/paper towels. We got 100 for $20 from Kmart, they're not the greatest quality but work well enough. All the local pet shops are out because of people buying pets lately for Reasons.

Puppy pads are a godsend - some of our cats at work go through industrial amounts of them. I’m so glad they’re helping Kira!

I used them for my cat with kidney issues - he'd make it to the vicinity of the litter box but not always inside it. And since he was a Very Long Cat, he could be in the litter and still miss!
